Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Storc.
Hi Kelly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to today?
I grew up in a small suburban town in Ohio, and my family was pretty much the epitome of middle-class, blue color living. Despite that, I was mesmerized by bigger cities and knew that I wanted the music to be my life from a very early age! I started playing piano at the age of 5, and classical violin at the age of 7. In addition to that more traditional style of music training, my mother was a karaoke DJ! So it is safe to say that a BIG chunk of my childhood revolved around performing. Nothing has ever made me happier than writing and playing songs! So, I leaped about 3 and a half years ago and moved to Nashville. I spent the first 3 years here securing financial stability for myself by working as a self-employed health insurance agent. It was NOT easy, but it was a wise investment of my time. 2022 marks the first year that I have been able to make music my primary life and career focus! I am so incredibly grateful for the stage of my life that I am in now, as I am gearing up to record and release my debut single as an alternative pop music artist! Without ruining too many surprises, the photo of me throwing flowers at the camera is symbolic of what my first single is about! I’ll be announcing the release date for that song soon on Instagram!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, and I don’t expect one to move forward! I don’t think such a thing exists. If you’re expecting a smooth road to success, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment the first time things get tough. I believe it is important to find conviction within yourself that you will achieve your goals, but anticipating challenges is just as important for your heart and mind. The truth is, no one has ever left a meaningful legacy overnight. Life would be boring if everything came easy to you, anyway! I know I certainly don’t want to flash forward to the end of my music career. I want to enjoy every day that I’m doing what I love, even when things happen that I never saw coming.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
One thing about me feels like a unique talent or skill or whatever you’d like to call it. I refuse to become a cynic, no matter what life throws at me. Most people start doubting themselves at some point. I’ve seen many people lose their spirit when they don’t get the deal they want in their music career within the period they think they should succeed. Getting sucked into those worrying thoughts is so harmful to your spirit. I’ve admittedly had my fair share of nights where I couldn’t sleep because I was struggling to make progress and wasn’t doing what I wanted in music. But, over the last three years, I’ve purposefully worked on becoming very grit-y. I’m a nerd. I’ve consumed thousands of hours of podcasts and self-help books, and most of the people who knew me 5 years ago or even just 1 year ago say they don’t recognize me anymore. And that is what I am most proud of. I am pleased that I have been so dedicated to becoming the best version of myself and that I have fortified my mind and spirit from breaking. It does not matter what happens to me anymore. I have my mind entirely made up for making my music. I trust myself and the process, so I will continue working hard, and I won’t lose myself or my happiness along the way. All of that being said, I appreciate honest songs when it comes to my style. I listen to a LOT of heavy music because I love its rawness, and I have incorporated that kind of energy and angst into music that you could still enjoy while relaxing or socializing at a coffee shop!
Before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Great question! This is the best place for anyone to go who would like to be a part of my day-to-day journey of creating and performing music. I have performed and sang on Broadway here in town and frequently perform 1 – 2 hour long solo-acoustic sets, including a mix of my original and cover music! I will be announcing the release dates for my original music very soon on Instagram. Instagram is also a great place for other musicians to reach out to me if they think we have a similar vibe or style and would like to collaborate. Anyone looking to book a show with me can reach out to me by email: [email protected].
I greatly appreciate all the support!
