Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Tomes.
Hi Kelsey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
After completing an Education Degree, I started working as a tutor for a local company called Tutoring Rocks in 2013. I immediately fell in love with the company and people-focused it was. The company’s owners are the kindest, most generous people I’ve met who LOVE to champion their employees. I worked for Tutoring Rocks from 2013-2018 before moving to a different part of the state.
During my three-year “break” from Tutoring Rocks, I worked as a public school Jr. High Math Teacher. The skills I acquired from Tutoring Rocks helped me become a strong, confident, and personable teacher. In 2021, my family moved to Nolensville, TN, when the owner of Tutoring Rocks reached out to see if I would be interested in starting a TR location in my new town. The thought of being a part of Tutoring Rocks again made me more than excited… I couldn’t wait! Bringing a Tutoring Rocks location to Nolensville has been a dream.
TR is a part of who I am and it has been a joy getting to shape the culture here as the Nolensville Partner. I get to work with incredible tutors and students; living and working in the same community is SO FUN. I have been able to raise my (almost) 4 daughters while working for this company, and I am proud to tell people what I get to do for my job.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Truly, my experience with Tutoring Rocks has been mostly smooth! The hardest part has been hiring tutors/mentors for the Nolensville area.
We have very high expectations since our students deserve the best. The hiring process is long and tiresome, but it is always worth it once we find the perfect person. I could not be more proud of our team’s incredible tutors/mentors.
We’ve been impressed with Tutoring Rocks, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart?
Tutoring Rocks is an Academic Program that meets students where they are and helps them get where they need to go. From the most basic building blocks in kindergarten to the most challenging advanced placement courses in high school, our exceptional quality never wavers. We provide reliable, comprehensive services to meet the needs of students of all kinds and in all seasons of life.
We also have a complete College Planning Program- starting with career and major counseling and pre-application support, all through receiving your acceptance letters – we aim to help students along a path that leads to their top college admissions goals. What I am MOST proud of, though, is how our tutors/mentors connect with our students. We truly see our students as family and are here to support them every step of the way.
We get to know them and how they learn and develop unique ways to champion them. Every student is uniquely created, and so is our approach. We will go out of our way to ensure students become THEIR best… whatever that might look like for them.

We love Nolensville and the surrounding areas! It is a joy and pleasure to be able to serve our students academically because we not only see the fruit of their achieving good grades, but we also get to see a life change in them.
I am all about empowering students to become more confident and proud of who they are as students and people.
