Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Love.
Hi Kendra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started doing nails in 2013. I’ve always had interest in art but never knew where to place my talent. One day, I had a friend that asked if I could try to do an acrylic set on her. So me being curious if I’m able, we went to Walmart an grabbed a Kiss Acrylic kit for $15 & I got to work. We propped up a lid from a plastic tote, criss-cross on my bed & this was my nail station. I realized I had potential & from there I started to work on my craft. I began taking clients for $20 anyway you want them. About 3 years into practicing my craft, I went to nail technician school at Volunteer Beauty academy. Once I became licensed, I decide to leave my corporate job & become a full time entrepreneur. I first worked in a full service salon named Hair Posium, I stayed there for about 2 years. Once my clientele became so big, I moved into a salon suite. At this moment I realized I had the “Be Your Own Boss” potential. Covid came in the middle of my peak of my career but that didn’t stop my fire. I opened a full service salon called KenDem Beauty with one of my close friends in 2021. Come see us 🙂
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being an entrepreneur is not for the weak. You have times where there are slow seasons & learning that was a challenge but I now carry a solid clientele to where I can still consistently be a full time nail tech.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a nail artist, I call my self an artist because I’m more than just a nail tech. I specialize in hand painted nail art. I can bring a vision to life & translate into nails.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
They don’t realize I’ve been in the industry for 13 years. I consider myself an OG in the nail industry. People also don’t know I’ve worked with celebrities like Summer Walker, Angela Rye, Jess Hilarious to name a few. I keep these wins to myself because my everyday clients are my true celebrities.
