Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenna May.
Hi Kenna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started during COVID 2020. I lost my job as a student due to the virus and was unable to find work for a long time. I started my own small business with the help of my mom making shirts, cups, and so much more with a Cricut. The amount of love and support I had was amazing and kept me making money.
I then got more into TikTok. I never really posted much on there it was more for watching but with Covid, we were in the house ALL THE TIME. My bf and I made them as well as my friends and I we quarantined with. I then got comfortable enough to start posting stuff with just me about my state, dances, funny things, and really any topic.
About a year ago started gaining followers well leaving a toxic job and starting a new one then being laid off a week before Christmas in 2022. I now have 11.3k followers which is not a lot by any means but I truly enjoy making content for people to enjoy as well as meeting with brands for partnerships and PR.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! 1. In Covid I lost my job. 2. I found a job at a dentist it was the WORST most TOXIC place I have ever worked in my entire life!!!! The owners treated us like complete shit had 4 of us quit in the same week. We were depressed, I was crying every day coming home and even in the morning to go there because of how badly they treated us
3. I got a job at a title company for houses in February of 2022. With the housing market being so high and none being sold as well as interest rates soaring I was then laid off a week before Christmas.
4. I worked as a bartender getting any shifts I could trying to make ends meet while still not being able to receive unemployment because of how sh*tty they are.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently have a degree in Criminal Justice and now just started a new job for the Department of Corrections which I love! I am the happiest I have been in my life and I’m in so much better position than before! I also still make shirts and do that for fun for family and friends.
