Meet Kensie Coppin of Nashville & Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kensie Coppin.

Hi Kensie , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began singing before I could talk. My first sentence was “Turn It Up!” In the car seat. My first performance was at 6 years old at my kindergarten talent show, and I started performing 2-3 times a week between ages 8 and 9 year old. My first stages were Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos, Texas, Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas and The Cotton Club in Granger, Texas. I also did the opry circuit all over south central Texas. I got the attention of some bigger bands like the Texas Jamm Band featuring members of the Ace In The Hole Band (George Straits band) and Two Tons of Steel. I performed on the Grand Ole Opry with Two Tons of Steel when I was 11 years old and with the Texas Jamm Band when I was 12 years old. My parents got some advice to move me to Nashville to learn about the business and songwriting. We moved when I was 13 years old when I quickly picked up the guitar and started writing songs solo and co-writing at Sony ATV. I graduated high school a year early to get a “head start” on my musical career. I moved back to Texas and went to Austin Community College for 2 years for Business Administration, and was a nanny, pre-school teacher and new born mothers helper. I then got asked to sing harmonies with William Clark Green in Texas on his Ringling Road tour, performing on stages like Lone Star Jam and Billy Bobs Texas.

That led me to recording and releasing my own EP in 2016, and securing 2 top 40 songs on the Texas music charts. I then entered into the Larry Joe Taylor songwriting competition, and won my round. I was given advice once again to move back to Nashville to continue growing as an artist and songwriter. I moved back to Nashville in 2018, signing a 3 year publishing deal with Erv Woolsey. I co-wrote and got heavily involved in the songwriting community, leading me to performing in multiple songwriters festivals and retreats. I recorded more music through the years, continuously hitting road blocks and speed bumps. I have released a few of those songs since, and continued touring as an independent artist. I have been my own manager, booking agent, driver, sound woman, social media manager and other roles throughout the last decade. I wanted to make sure all of my numbers on social media were completely organically grown, and having full creative control over my art and career.

November of 2024 I decided to move back home to Texas, to get back to my roots and start releasing new music. I since have signed a record deal with FAME records in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and recording my very first full length album that will be releasing later this year! I released my first single off of that record to Texas radio, taking it to #1 on the Texas Music Chart and top 20 on others. I also had my first “viral moment” with the single, and with the help of being added to editorial playlists, I have had almost 400,000 streams on that single, and so excited to release the rest of the album! It has been an amazing journey, an extremely rough journey, but there are so many incredible things I’ve been able to experience along the way.

I strive to inspire young artists to go their own way, to never quit and be authentic, transparent and honest about their struggles online.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had many struggles on this road. I have had a lot of opportunities and doors open for me, to have them slammed in my face over and over again. I have endured much rejection, and executives that would not help me if I did not “go to bed” with them. I value my soul, and my body so I never took the offers I was given. I also have dealt with many health issues, spinal injuries, fibromyalgia depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation. I have been slowly reprocessing traumas, PTSD, depression, anxiety and losses throughout the last few years. This has made it hard to stay on my own timeline of “success” but I do believe I would not be the person I am without the struggles.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Singer, songwriter, performer, believer

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a quiet, sweet little girl full of life but also full of trauma at a very young age. I learned to mask this, but still kept my integrity and passion for music. Music and family has been my whole world my whole life!!
