Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirklyn Powell.
Hi Kirklyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My internal fire for entrepreneurship & being a business owner started from a very young age. Back in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic began, I had the vision to run my own business, specifically a coffee food truck. With the support of my family, friends, and community I was able to make it happen, so at 16 years old I opened the doors of my first-ever business. I expected to only be open a few days a week and have maybe one employee so I could focus on school, but the demand for my business skyrocketed! In March of 2021, The Morning Grind Mobile Cafe was no longer a mobile cafe. I got the opportunity to open a drive-thru location that was open six days a week and I was managing an entire cafe menu alongside my seven employees who were all under the age of 21. Fast forward to the beginning of 2022, I decided that I loved running my coffee shop but I didn’t like where I was living. I was born and raised in North West Arkansas which was where I ran my coffee shop, but shortly after graduating in May, I wanted to make a big leap of faith and move to Nashville, TN.
I now work as a Realtor with The Hach Group at Keller Williams Realty Nashville Music City. I get to serve others trying to plant their roots here in middle Tennessee and alleviate the stress that home buying and selling puts on someone. With The Hach Group, we strive to provide exceeding extraordinary service along with an unforgettable clientele experience. In the future, I plan on continuing to work in Real Estate, but I also plan on launching a coffee company and creative hub to help the creatives in Nashville to have a place to create & connect.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey over the past few years has been anything but smooth. Running a successful drive-thru coffee shop while also being a full-time student during the peak of COVID-19 was challenging on its own.
The biggest obstacle that I have faced so far would be deciding where I wanted to plant my roots & start my life after high school. I had to decide if I wanted to take the comfortable and easier route which would’ve been to stay back home in North West Arkansas or take the risk to move to a different state where I only knew a couple of people.
Thankfully, I took the leap of faith and made the move to Nashville where I became a licensed Realtor and got plugged in with the best Nashville native team!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Realtor with The Hach Group at Keller Williams Realty Nashville Music City. I get the opportunity on the daily to work with those moving into the city wanting to plant roots here as well as those who have already established themselves in the city looking to buy or sell real estate. There are thousands of Realtors in the Greater Nashville area, but I like to remind people that not all agents are made the same. Some are in it for the money others for the connections. With The Hach Group, we are in it for the clients.
Our clientele experience is unique because we always come from contribution and provide exceeding extraordinary service. When clients walk away with the keys to their new homes we want them to remember who sold them their home 10 years down the road because the experience we provided was so memorable. Many compare someone’s age to their experience, but with the right people behind you supporting you along the way then the sky becomes the limit. On top of Real Estate, I am also a freelance photographer! Previously, in North West Arkansas I primarily focussed on shooting with seniors and families. Now in Nashville, I am transitioning into more editorial, fashion, and branding photography! I still love shooting with families and seniors though.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I think that happiness can come from many sources, but I also think that your happiness can be taken away from many of the same things. To me, running my coffee shop where I was able to build relationships and create a community with my customers was one of my sources of happiness. At the same time, the same coffee shop required a lot of me mentally and physically. I allowed myself to use it as a source of happiness while also putting myself into overdrive where I worked myself until I mentally and physically couldn’t do it anymore. That was when I reached a burnout where I no longer could be creative or find happiness within running it. That’s when I realized that true happiness comes from a life of balance.
Allowing yourself to indulge in the sweet moments of life while also creating boundaries and barriers with what provides you with happiness. Allowing yourself to do what you love, but not relying on that one thing to be your only source of happiness is key. You must allow yourself to do a multitude of things that bring you joy throughout the day so your sources of happiness can never fully be depleted. For me, a balance of my happiness is getting to have a job that makes me grateful to wake up every day, but also allows me to disconnect from work and spend time with my friends and family. I think it’s important that every aspect of your life should bring you some happiness so that no matter what part of life you’re in you can still find happiness in every moment. Not to say that you can not be happy or feel other emotions I just believe that if there’s happiness in every moment it’s also a reminder that the current emotion you’re feeling isn’t an everlasting one.
