Meet Kristi Gillette of Paducah & Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristi Gillette.

Hi Kristi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started showing interest in photography when I was just a wee little thing. I would pose my cats (yes, I said cats) and photograph them on my film camera. I decided to continue on with that love & headed to Nashville after college. This is where I received my Bachelor’s in Photography and started my career in photography. I came back home to good ole Kentucky & quickly fell in love with my husband, Jerry. We now live in Paducah, KY with two rowdies, but adorable girls. I come back to Nashville as often as I can (less than two hours away) so that I can visit the city & photograph the beauty in it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
SO many struggles. Even today, 10 years later. Starting out it was “what camera should I buy?” “what stop is the best one?” or “why aren’t my clients appreciating me.” Over the years I found out that it isn’t necessarily the equipment you buy, but how you use it. Same with your settings! I LOVE to shoot wide open but I follow some amazing photographers who don’t. It’s all about what works for you! Now, I charge my worth and my clients book me for ME and not because I am just someone who takes photos.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a natural light photographer. I believe in capturing moments as they happen. In my family sessions, I want to create emotion with games, cuddles, and dancing. Seniors, I want you to feel confident because you are who you are and THAT is what makes you amazing. With couples it is all about that spark. You know what I’m talking about. I just want your images to be treasured & to make your heart completely full. I am so proud of my business and the clients that work with me. Heck, they are friends! That is what makes my job not feel like a job. It is my passion.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Do things for YOU and others will appreciate it more. Sometimes we try to please everyone else and we get lost in the mix. (this is coming from the person who does this quite often) If you enjoy it, do it. They will see how much you love it and want to rock that journey with you.

Glad to see this, Kristi. I still have a pink clothespin holding something on my refrigerator!
