Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyndal Cheatham.
Hi Kyndal, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I taught English in Thailand for 6 months and after returning to the states it wasn’t the easiest adjustment. 3 months into settling in, my mom passed away. I was at my complete lowest. While drowning in grief, It was as if a feeling took over my body and demanded I paint. I wondered where is this coming from? I’ve never painted outside of arts and crafts in school. My boyfriend at the time surprised me with paint supplies for a date night in. I posted finished pieces to IG and my DMs were flooded with “how much”? Wait Huh? I was solely painting to feel what I couldn’t express in words. I stayed consistent with the process because I fell in love with each brushstroke. From a consumer point of view, one might see a bunch of colors but I’m really telling you a story. I paint bold/vibrant pieces because it’s how I would like to feel. Sharing art is not easy but with God and the little strength I had Kyndal Brooke was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business in the middle of a “panoramic”? It has not been a smooth road! In the beginning, I was hesitant on starting Kyndal Brooke because I wanted everything to be perfect. The things I know now would have never come to fruition if I was focused on perfection. One of the biggest obstacles has been imposter syndrome. If I don’t believe in myself then who will. You know what they say “I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit.” Within that obstacle, I love what I do so I’m never down for too long.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Abstract Artist and Jeweler. I specialize in modern art and signature earrings. Each piece created, tells a story that is left to the viewer’s discretion. I create pieces in hopes of creating a conversation. My work sets me apart from others because it seriously makes me a better human. Because if I’m whole it will show through my work. I’m most proud to do what I love every day.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I manifest and make art happen. Trusting my gut and going with the flow of life has brung good luck my way. Sometimes it’s best to just do than to think. Your brain will catch up later.
