Today we’d like to introduce you to Liam Coleman
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Charlton, Massachusetts listening to all kinds of music from country, rock, rap, grunge, folk and pop. At 6 years old I wanted to take music lessons and my parents gave me the choice of drums or guitar. Of course I chose drums because they were louder and I was a very active kid so it gave me an opportunity to go a little crazy. I continued lessons for 10 years and drummed in a punk band in my early teens. I taught myself to play guitar when I was 12 and began playing out at open mics and then started playing paid gigs in different bars, restaurants and breweries all around Massachusetts when I was 15. When I was a senior in high school I caught the attention of Peter Strickland, former Chief Marketing Officer for Warner Music Nashville and Chief Executive Officer of Marathon Talent based here in the city. Peter believed in me and signed me to the Marathon Talent roster when I was 17. Right after graduating high school I moved to Nashville at 18 years old. I started playing downtown on Broadway which slowly transitioned into road opportunities. My band and I have got to travel around the country for the last two and a half years playing bars, frat shows and festivals. I write a lot here in town for myself and other artists and have been blessed to have a couple cuts under my belt. Now I’m just trying to write and put out as much music and take as many road opportunities as I can.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been totally smooth but I’m okay with that. Every opportunity I’ve been given since I arrived in town has been a blessing and a learning experience both good and bad. Without going into to much detail, in 2023 I had a lot of health issues that took me out of the game for most of the year but I’m back and healthy now and couldn’t be happier.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a full-time musician. I’ve worked some jobs in retail but I’ve been very fortunate that I’ve been able to make a living playing music the past year. My favorite thing to do is play live music. I love getting on stage with the boys and just having a good time and making sure the audience has a good time. Our live show is high energy with heavy rock influences. There’s always been something about performing that makes me so happy. I love the songwriting aspect as well. Whether it’s writing a song for me or someone else I love getting to tell a story that someone may relate too. I think the thing I’m most proud of is I’m out here living my dream. When I first visited Nashville at 12 years old I told my parents then I was moving here to play and write music, and I’m doing that. I feel that in just 3 short years of being in town I have worked hard, made some amazing friends and am further along in starting my career than I would have expected. I’m blessed to be able to do what I love.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the food here in Nashville. Traffic is definitely the worst.
