Meet Lindy Wynne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindy Wynne.

Hi Lindy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
When I was in college I went on a service immersion trip to Tijuana Mexico. One of the places we visited was an orphanage–this one day changed the entire trajectory of my life. While I reveled in the joy of the children, I also experienced the heartbreak of knowing they did not have families. Some of the children’s parents were too poor to care for them, while other children did not have parents at all.

I returned the following summer to volunteer at the orphanage and a seed was planted in my heart to adopt. Twenty-five years later my husband and I continue to raise our three adopted children. Two are biological siblings we adopted at the ages of three and six from foster care and our youngest we adopted as an infant in a private adoption. Two of our children have special needs.

I have learned from my journey of becoming an adoptive mother that love knows no bounds. We are tied as a human family by God and are called to accompany one another in the most intimate of ways. We must care for the poor and vulnerable.

When I created my podcast “Mamas in Spirit” it was to share the stories of people in every walk of life in order for us to look below the surface and hear what we share in common at the soul level as a human family. Every person is profoundly valuable and experiences both suffering and joy. When we open our hearts to God we learn how He will transform everything, even the most difficult of circumstances.

“Mamas in Spirit” is a mini-retreat in a podcast. It is an opportunity for listeners to learn how much they matter, how deeply they are loved, and how they are called to share the gift of who they are with the world to help touch lives and transform hearts with the boundless love of God.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have addressed very sensitive topics in Mamas in Spirit, which has stretched me to be very open with listeners and address the tough stuff. I do this through storytelling. This gives the opportunity for listeners to hear real experiences of people who have encountered sexual exploitation, racism, persecution, etc.

Also, Mamas in Spirit was at the beginning of Season 2 when Covid began to unfold. I ended up at home with two children in school (homeschooling one and I’m not a homeschooling mom!) and my husband, Brian working out of the house. In spite of all the pressure of unexpected responsibilities and the ambiguity of Covid, I wanted to keep the joy in my home and in my work. Every morning I would go out running, walking, listening to worship music, and praying to get filled up in order to pour out on my family and others. God provided! Praise God!

Previously I had done all my interviews in person. Now, almost every podcast was online and I had to change how I recorded. This created a more national audience due to having guests from all over the country. This also stretched me to publicly proclaim the hope I deeply believe in during a very difficult time. I had to learn to step out in faith, even when I felt intimidated. This resulted in very healthy growth for me!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Podcast Host, Speaker, Retreat Leader, and Writer. I have a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling and hope to specialize in listening and reflecting on God’s boundless love for others. I hope to be an instrument of healing, both for individuals and communities.

In Mamas in Spirit, I have heartfelt conversations with guests about how God has transformed their hearts and lives. People share very difficult situations, like addiction, infidelity, substance abuse, sexual exploitation, incarceration, loss, etc. They reveal how God transformed them and their circumstances even when they thought they were unseen or their situations were hopeless. Guests share how all things are possible with God!

Mamas in Spirit is all about listening–listening to God and others. We live in a very noisy culture where people often want to be heard. This can create division and echo chambers. It is often in the listening that God works and brilliant things happen, like healing and transformation!

Mamas in Spirit is authentic. It is unscripted. While guests receive an Interview Guide to help them reflect and dig deep about their experiences, once it comes to recording there is no script. It is a totally honest conversation, which helps us to share vulnerably and fully about how the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives.

I am grateful, rather than proud. Thankful that God blessed me with this glorious ministry. It continues to be an honor to listen to the hearts and stories of others.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love our city! My husband and I chose to move here out of all of the cities in the U.S.

I appreciate the warmth, faith, music, food, and joy. As a mother with children with special needs, I especially appreciate the advocacy for those with special needs. There are great job opportunities and loving culture. Is it okay to say I love Publix?! This business has changed my daughter’s life.

I least like homelessness, issues of addiction that are easily seen in certain areas, etc. I hope to help with these things!
