Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke and Kaylee Olson.
Hi Luke and Kaylee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Luke and I both grew up in musical households. My dad is a drummer so I grew up singing with him, as well as singing in church. Luke was involved in musicals and played in a band with his brother. We both decided to follow our passion to pursue music and make the move to Nashville back in 2016. We both attended Belmont University, which is where we met. We started writing music and singing together & found that we had chemistry as musicians and as a couple. In the past 6 years, playing music together has blessed us tremendously. We’ve had the opportunity to travel the world together, work with incredible artists/musicians, and create in the process. Thankful to do what I love with who I love.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but looking back, the obstacles and challenges we’ve faced along the way have strengthened us. This year we signed our first record deal! We are so fortunate that we get to play music full-time and make music for a living. We love being able to travel, meet new people, share our songs, and make a living through all of that. With that being said, the music industry can be extremely tough, and hearing “no” gets monotonous. You have to keep pushing and fighting for what you want (obviously be easier said than done). For us, playing music is something we will do no matter what. By hearing “no” and encountering different obstacles along our journey, it has helped us take a look at our plan/goals and focus on what we need to do to accomplish the next step.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We really love songwriting together. There is something special about writing songs with someone you have a connection with. I would say we’re known to write a lot of upbeat, fun, love songs. We both grew up on Country music, so that will always have our hearts. Although, we love experimenting and writing outside of the box as well. We’re both fans of hip-hop! We love incorporating hip-hop beats, synths, and melodies into our own music.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Crazy to say but the COVID-19 Crisis was definitely both a curse and blessing for us. Our hearts go out to those who lost love ones during the pandemic. We really saw throughout it all, that live music & interaction with our fans is such an important factor. Being able to play live shows again and hug our fans is such a gift! Music connects people. The feeling that one gets while listening to music or experiencing a live show is unlike anything else. More than ever are we wanting to write meaningful songs, record, play live shows, and meet those who are so supportive and let us do what we do.
