Meet Lydiana Matthews of Hula Hoop Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydiana Matthews.

Hi Lydiana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hula Hoop Nashville was born two years ago. My journey with hula hooping began the year of 2015 when I was attending a festival Bonorrroo. I’ve seen hula hoopers dance and how they looked was so beautiful & connected. Shortly after, I was obsessed with this plastic tube. I soon started to watch YouTube videos on how to hula hoop, educate myself about different types of hoops for different purposes & started to make my own hoops & creating classes. I have always done yoga or gymnastics since being adopted but few years ago, I really started to see how yoga was helping me more than the physical practice. Now I have created this space for everyone to feel at home & grow as a community of flow through which ever form of practice that fits for them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Creating & finally having the space wasn’t a smooth road, but without challenges there is no growth so we’re going with the flow. For two years, it’s been a stepping stone, I started the business in my basement and teaching at parks and offices then when we finally found the space it was the year of 2020. March 5th, 2020. During that time, Nashville was shut down & for a year I took the time to create something that I knew was going to be great! Something that will bring smiles to everyone & really feel the good energy. We have now officially been open for four months now!

As you know, we’re big fans of Hula Hoop Nashville. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
First, I want to let everyone know that: EveryONE & EveryBODY can hula hoop! No matter what age, size, gender, animal. You can hoop! We have In studio & virtual classes including Hoop Fitness(weighted hoop) Hoop Dance, Hoop Yoga, Silk Fans, Different types of styles of yoga, and other forms of art spinning. We not only do classes but offer parties, events, workshops, studio rentals. Great part is that we make all of our hula hoops at the studio!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My Fiancé has automotive business & has been a huge help in guiding & supporting through this journey.
