Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Rose.
Hi Madeline, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Photography found me when I least expected it, and wedding photography found me exactly when I hoped it would. My name is Madelline Rose. I’m from Memphis, Tennessee, and I document love all over, but mainly in NYC. TN, and abroad. I spent my late high school and early college years working at a Thai restaurant while wondering what to do with my life (typical). I started college with not much direction other than “this seems like the right choice,” and one day a friend of mine gave me an old camera and told me that he thought I would be “good at this.” I started taking photos for fun here and there, just documenting my friends and our memories. My first ever paid Session was when a coworker asked if I could take her Christmas card pictures, and a few months later, a friend of mine gave me $50 to come and shadow her at a wedding. I left feeling elated, inspired, and fulfilled (and couldn’t believe that I just made $50 while having so much fun). Fast forward to spring of 2020, I dropped out of college and decided to pursue this full-time. Here I am six years later, a full-time travel Photographer documenting weddings, people in their craft, and everything in between.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I believe everything in my career path has happened for a reason, and though at times it felt like things weren’t working out and doors weren’t opening, I always found out later that they were never meant to, and those opportunities wouldn’t have helped me move forward for the life I want for myself. I think that if you’re doing things with your whole heart, what is for you will not go past you. Trusting your gut and not second-guessing is always going to lead you in the direction that’s meant for you
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do Photography, but I mainly focus on weddings and people in love. I find that documenting love brings me immense joy and fulfillment, knowing that I’m able to give something so precious back to people in the form of photographs.
I’m sure, like most people, I’m known for different things by different people, but a comment I get pretty frequently, and one I would say I’m also proud of, is for the way I make people feel while they’re in front of my camera. Having your picture taken is extremely personal, vulnerable, and intimate, and letting someone into that bubble to document you and your love- you’re really trusting them and putting a lot of faith in their ability to see you authentically and with loving eyes. I’m not doing this because it’s a good paycheck; I’m doing this because I genuinely care about making people feel seen and beautiful and about helping them preserve their memories that are so, so fleeting
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I think the people in my life are more influential than the media I consume; I am very rich and lucky in life to have found friends and have family who are constantly bettering themselves and, in return, make me want to be better as well. They are kind, genuine, empathetic, and considerate, all of which are things I value very much in myself and in those around me.
I love to spend time noticing things that might only happen for a split second, like light coming through a window or strangers holding hands. Those things may seem mundane, but to me they’re absolutely everything, and something as simple as a kind interaction with a stranger influences me and reminds me that love is all around you, even if it’s not about you!
