Today we’d like to introduce you to Marsalena Scurlock.
Hi Marsalena, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started a hair extension business in 2018 called Klase chic Kollection. My fiancé believed in my vision and got me a storefront. I expanded to provide clothing as well. My business was very successful until I got pregnant in 2019 and had to take a mini break. I always had a love for fashion and love getting dressed up. I wanted to bring something different to my city which is small. I stopped selling hair and only provided women’s clothing and accessories.
I let my store go in July of this year because business got slow. I took another break and rebranding myself now. I changed my business name to “I am victorious” a faith-based Christian apparel business. I currently only provide inspired t-shirts. I play to expand to provide custom clothing like sets and purses. I created I am victorious for women not afraid to represent their faith. That’s a warrior.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve stopped and started back so many times. So many times I wanted to give up because things weren’t going my way. I’ve had up and down moments. It hurt me to downsize and let my brick-and-mortar business go.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about I am victorious?
I transitioned my business to I am victorious. I’m a faith base Christian apparel brand. I came up with the name one day writing in my journal. I want to start a nonprofit through the name. It means you’re a warrior, you’re worthy of all things. I want to inspire other women. Spread the gospel. I want to uplift other women that are going through hard times.
Spread the gospel and how good God is. What makes me unique is m relatable. I’m not afraid to talk about God or spread his word. I’m on a spiritual journey and I want to encourage others I feel like I’m finally walking toward my purpose. I want women to represent their faith in my clothing.
Not only wear it but live it. My goal is to reach nations and help nations.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a girly girl. Very spoiled and always got what I wanted. I was the baby of the bunch. I was always into the hair. I always got my hair done. I loved to shop and dress up.
