Meet Marvin Joles of Blacktop Banter Podcast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Joles.

Hi Marvin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Asphalt is my industry. That’s where I own 2 businesses and where my podcast, Blacktop Banter, thrives. I first came to Nashville in 2017 for the National Pavement Expo and have been back 2 more times for that Expo since then. Most recently, in 2022, my team and I made downtown Nashville our home for 2 additional weeks. Once for the World of Asphalt Conference, my Asphalt businesses, and then for the Music City GP Indy Car Race and Blacktop Banter.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting to know Nashville geographically has been a breeze. The city is laid out great for visitors and for holding conferences. The only struggle we run into is that there is always something going on here, so when we book on short notice to visit, we have a hard time staying where we did before, which isn’t too bad, as it causes us to see more of the city.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Blacktop Banter Podcast focuses mainly on the Asphalt Industry, Technology, Techniques, and its entrepreneurs. It has transitioned into the entertainment side, as we have had guests from the NFL, NASCAR, XGames, and Combat Sports, as we have found that Asphalt is connected to everybody in some way. In 2021 we won the “Best of the Web” Award from Pavement Mag, as our TikTok page, @blacktopbanter is the largest and fastest growing in our industry.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role you feel it’s played for you.
I used to think it was luck that got us or me into rooms or at tables with successful or interesting people. Then I realized it was just the fact that I was willing to take journeys like the ones to Nashville, be open and be of service to others.
