Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Robb.
Hi Mary, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Hi! My name is Mary Robb, and I’m the founder of Social Practice, a boutique social media agency. Ever since elementary school, I have been passionate about storytelling. It all started when I discovered the female powerhouse vocalists LeAnn Rimes, Christina Aguilera, and Jessie James Decker (just to name a few). As female artists were creating their own category of music, my childhood dream was to become a famous singer who left an audience feeling empowered and confident. At the exciting age of 8, I began my singing career and spent ten years pursuing my passion for performing on stage.
While music will forever be a passion of mine, entrepreneurship has been something I always found identity in. I’ve always felt a little misunderstood, unable to stay in one place for too long, and constantly dreaming about the future.
After graduating from college with a public relations and business degree from Texas Tech University (wreck em!), I was blessed with a series of jobs at four different companies over five years. Hungry to learn & grow, I found myself getting restless quickly, ready to take on more. Between working inside an advertising agency, a digital marketing agency, and a software marketing start-up, I discovered a demand in the marketing services space that wasn’t being properly addressed: social media. & that’s when my first alive idea became a reality.
Social Practice was born in 2019 with the mission to provide businesses with what they were missing: a strategic, engaging, and productive social media presence. Passionate about small business and entrepreneurship, my goal was to create a model that allowed our team to bring a business owner’s vision to life. Our services are designed to help our clients grow through organic & paid social media marketing, influencer marketing, and content-driven email campaigns.
With leadership, excellence, and love at the core of what we do, our mission doesn’t stop with the client’s success. I would not be where I am today without the mentors, bosses, and business owners who provided me the opportunity to show up & do the work while learning from mistakes.
As a company, we are passionate about career development and building a workplace that focuses on the team’s growth – not just their performance. We value personal and professional development because we’ve seen firsthand how this impacts a company’s success. We strive to develop, coach & grow the next generation of exceptional creative talent. We want every individual who works with us to leave better than when they started working here.
And we’re only getting started!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If an entrepreneur says it’s been an “easy” road, they’re either lying, leaving out details on how they got there, or are insanely lucky.
To put it simply: no, the road hasn’t always been smooth. I opened the agency in March 2019 and quit my job in July 2019. Fast forward eight months later, and the whole world shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
What’s the first thing to go when businesses are cutting costs? In many cases, marketing. But by the grace of God, in 2020, we maintained >85% of our client base and doubled in size. However, the amount of stress and anxiety we faced wasn’t easy.
We had to get creative and figure out how to keep our clients happy so we could keep our team employed. We definitely learned some significant lessons that have positively impacted our growth today.
The biggest thing I learned in 2020 is that you can’t lose faith – even in the hardest of times when the pressure is unreal. Throughout the time we were completely shut down, I was in the office every day (alone), working hard to make sure I didn’t have to let go of any of our team members while ensuring our quality of service wasn’t interrupted.
Our team is invaluable, and I couldn’t have gotten through this time without them beside me. When I experience weak moments (allowing doubts, fear, or anxiety about the future to bog me down), our team always shows up and reminds me why we’re here and why we’re not going to let anything hold us back from pursuing our mission.
The big picture is this: WHO is on your team matters more than anything. We can survive tough times together, but it’d be impossible to get through it without them.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
