Today we’d like to introduce you to McKayla Kennedy
Hi McKayla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a competitive cheerleader my entire life up through college. After retirement I wanted to find a hobby to keep me moving. I was introduced to bodybuilding in my early 20’s and fell in love with everything about the sport. I spent years working shows, shadowing coaches, and attending workshops to learn all I could. I became a personal trainer in 2014 and found my passion in helping others reach their health and fitness goals. I had my kids and exercised through each pregnancy up until delivery. I got certified in prenatal and postpartum fitness to help other new moms find their confidence again. After years of helping other women find their confidence I decided to find my own. I’d spent years following bodybuilding and it was time for me to take the stage as an athlete. My first prep after my 3rd baby was rough. Weight came off but I just wasn’t quite stage ready so I took some time off before my second prep. My second prep was a mental battle with myself. Wanting to still be a good wife and mom but also do something for myself. Finding balance was hard and I struggled a bit, but my coach Mitchell Moss pushed me to the end and I took home 4th place. After that I knew the stage was where I belonged and I’m now on my 3rd prep and hoping to bring home a few overall wins this season. I also made the leap into competitive coaching. I love the complexity of a prep and I have found so much joy in coaching my own competitors. I hope to continue to grow in the sport and one day be one of the top female coaches in the area.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. I’m a stay at home mom and it has been really difficult to find a healthy balance. I’m needed at home but I also want to make time to better myself so finding a groove has been hard, but I’m learning every day and things are becoming smoother over time. I’ve also had a lot of self doubt over the years. That has been hard to overcome as well, but my husband has been an amazing support system for me. He and my kids always make me feel like I can do absolutely anything.
We’ve been impressed with Kay Kenn Coaching, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a Certified personal trainer. I train both lifestyle clients and competitive clients. I specialize in women’s health, prenatal/postpartum fitness, and bodybuilding. I’m always learning more and finding ways to improve as a coach.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My kids. My husband. My family. I want my kids to see their mom working hard to achieve something that she wants. I want them to see me apply myself. I want them to know that becoming a parent doesn’t have to stop you from achieving your own personal goals. You can be both an amazing parent and still find things you love. I want them to know that they can do absolutely anything they can put their minds to. I want them to know that hard work will always get you where you want to go.
