Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Bollea Rowe.
Hi Melissa , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Nashville from my hometown of Tampa, Florida, in August 2006 to pursue songwriting full-time. After working as an administrative assistant at Great American Country (GAC) on Music Row for several years, I launched my own boutique publishing company, Rhyme Partners, in 2013. Since then, it has been a journey of hard work and dedication. Thirteen years later, I am a professional songwriter with a catalog featured in TV, film, advertisements, radio, and streaming. I am proud to have persevered through both the successes and the hardships of this industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I started with very little knowledge of music publishing—only a deep desire to write songs and champion others with the same dream. Building Rhyme Partners with minimal investment was challenging, especially while learning to navigate global royalty collection and the brutal competition of the music business. I had to become as creative in business as I am in songwriting, essentially learning the intricacies of publishing years after becoming a publisher.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I believe what sets me apart is my persistence in finding creative avenues for song placements. I am particularly proud of my work on “Speak Life, End Bullying, The Musical,” a production and curriculum used in middle schools nationwide. Writing and co-producing the songs for that film, and knowing they impact students globally, is a career highlight. Additionally, it has been phenomenal to see the success of “Yes I Can,” a song from our catalog by Hannah McNeil and Bill DiLuigi that was recently recorded by the iconic Bonnie Tyler.
What’s next?
To continue to make and champion great music as well as play live shows. I’ve created a few music events that have been successful year after year like “A Very Merry Nashville Christmas.” I could actually see myself owning my own music venue someday to house some of these events but for now we are honored to keep hearing “yes” to our shows.
