Meet Mia Garcia of Franklin Tennessee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Garcia.

Hi Mia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a child, I always did crafts such as friendship bracelets, scrapbooking, crochet, coloring, etc. so creativity has definitely been in my blood!
After graduating high school in 2019, I decided to take a gap year where I prayed and worked part time to figure out what next steps would be! I knew that college wasn’t my calling, but I still needed to figure out what was.
During the pandemic was really when I found my passion for watercolor! I had never really painted before (only in elementary school art classes) and happened upon one of my old crayons watercolor palettes. I decided to try it out since I couldn’t really do much else and fell absolutely in love with the medium and all that I was able to create!
After a push from family and friends, I chose to start Designs by Mia Lauren and have been selling my watercolor at in person events and online ever since!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road and I’ve made many mistakes with trying to get things up and running. I’ve had to learn to continually put the effort in even if things are progressing as quickly or growing as much as I’d like knowing that with the effort I’ll see results!
I’ve also had to put my art on the side burner several times since starting and that has resulted in dry patches, but my goal is to be able to one day do full time art!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in watercolor art leaning more towards florals and art based on Bible verses.
One piece that I am especially proud of is a hand painted map composed of popular flowers for each region!
What sets me apart part from others is the perspective in which I paint from! I tend to paint with a lot of detail and focus on the beauty of even the most minute of details, tying it together in one cohesive piece!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I did not have any formal training in watercolor art and have only been painting since fall of 2020!
