Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Haynes
Hi Micah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
A year ago or so, I started to get really curious about working in the creative field and reached out to a friend of mine, Audrey, that had started her own creative company, Seemly & Spruce. She had been working a corporate job for a few years and realized it was not fulfilling her passion for creativity. I felt the exact same way and slowly started to work alongside her and learn from her until I was able to start my own business. She was one of many that inspired me to GO FOR IT…and so I did!
Beginning in July, I founded Micah Haynes Creative and have been able to work with some incredible businesses and founders. My business is both photography and marketing/content creation. I have full time clients that I work with on a monthly basis to build their social media presence while also doing photoshoots around Nashville! I hope to expand my business and continue to learn new things!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a very interesting journey! When I quit my corporate job in May, I really committed myself to my first client, Jordan Solomon, and to landing more business. This took time and some weeks I felt like giving up because no doors were opening. Networking became vital and saying “yes” to everything helped open doors and pushed me out of my comfort zone.
The most important lesson I learned was to trust myself and find confidence in what made me unique from other creatives. I spent months comparing myself and realized what made me different was actually something to highlight, not hide. I AM my brand and that was hard to understand at first!
As for running a small business, I have to wear a lot of hats which can be challenging and no one keeps you accountable except YOU! This can either make or break you! Although there have been many struggles along the way, I truly value and love the work I do and the people I work with, making every day worth it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My creative business focuses on photography and social media/marketing management. I do everything from branding to graphics to content creation to strategy! My photography style ranges some but I mostly do portraits and lifestyle photography.
What I am “most known for” is my ability to make anyone feel natural and confident in front of the camera! Many clients will begin a photoshoot feeling insecure or timid and leave feeling confident and excited! I love empowering clients to find joy in something that felt daunting to them at first.
I’m most proud of the growth I have seen in my clients. Some have found a new passion for creativity whether it be taking photos in their free time, researching social media trends, or simply enjoying the creative process as a whole!
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I have trouble trusting myself to take risks and over the course of my life, I have always played it “safe”. That being said, big rewards require big risks at times. Starting my business was the biggest risk I have taken. I had to say goodbye to financial security, a bi-weekly paycheck, and to the “comfort” of the corporate ladder. Sometimes the comfort in our life holds us back from our full potential. I realized I needed to take a risk, feel discomfort, and leap blindly in order to push myself into this new season of my life. I needed to take the risk of trusting my instinct – and I’m so glad I did!
