Meet Mike Fuller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Fuller.

Hi Mike, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My artist’s name is sonnyguitarslim. I’m a musician, travel nurse, and avid snowboarder. I first started playing guitar at the age of 21. I didn’t have much going on in life. I was living in a college party house and working part-time. I always loved the guitar, so I decided to learn. I cut off all communication from the outside and locked myself in my room for a year. I even got rid of my cell phone. By year two, I was out doing gigs and jamming as much as possible. I took my guitar everywhere with me. I meet some really interesting musicians from a local college. They were from Memphis, TN, and are still the most talented humans ever to this day. After realizing the struggles of making it as a musician, I decided to go to nursing school.

Learning to play an instrument gave me the confidence to do anything. I made it through nursing school even while working a full-time job. Three years after focusing on nursing, I decided to get back into music. I released my first big single, TRAVELER Nov the 3rd, 21. It received 15,000 streams the first week. I had fans from Germany and Connecticut reach out to me and share their love for my music. The rest is history. Now I travel nurse and do music full time. I have released 11 tracks and over 90,000 streams on Spotify. My debut album, ‘No genre,’ is coming out within the next three months.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
The road was and will always be challenging—life in general.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make music from the heart. I specialize in guitar, but I don’t like to limit myself. I’m known for blending different styles of music to form one. I’m most proud of my drive. Some weeks I travel nurse and work 60 hours a week. I still find time to work on music. What sets me apart from others is my music. I stray away from the normal. I try to stay out of the box or label.

How would we have described you growing up if we knew you were growing up?
I was a quiet, laid-back kid. I’m still that way to this day. I don’t get excited about a lot of things.
