I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Along my journey, I have faced feelings of not being enough, depression, and alcoholism. I carried childhood trauma that I never fully dealt with until becoming an adult, and abandonment issues weighed heavily on me, leaving me feeling unloved and unwanted at times. But through therapy, prayer, and my deep relationship with God, I have found tremendous healing. Looking back, I now understand that the pain I went through was not in vain; it was part of a bigger purpose.
Knowing the calling God has placed on my life has brought clarity to the struggles I faced and helped me understand why I had to experience that hurt first. It has been a journey of healing and growth, and I now see that every challenge shaped me for a greater purpose, one that allows me to help others navigate their own pain and find strength in their journey. Through this understanding, I’m able to offer empathy, guidance, and hope to those who need it most, knowing that their struggles can lead to transformation as well.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Thank you for asking! I wear many hats, each one connected to my passion for helping others navigate their struggles and achieve their goals. I am a writer, motivational speaker, Realtor, and the Founder/CEO of The Art of Transparency, NFP as well as the Co-Founder of KiYha Moore Foundation.
I specialize in helping people heal from trauma, build resilience, and find their purpose. My personal journey, overcoming childhood trauma, depression, addiction, and abandonment—has allowed me to connect deeply with others who are going through similar struggles. I’m known for my transparency and vulnerability in sharing my story, which allows people to feel seen, heard, and empowered to make positive changes in their lives. I’ve written over 15 books, many of which focus on healing from personal trauma, overcoming obstacles like domestic violence, and finding strength in the face of adversity.
What sets me apart is my holistic approach. Whether I’m speaking, coaching, or helping a client buy their first home, I bring empathy, real-life strategies, and a deep understanding of the emotional aspects of life’s challenges. I also believe in the power of real, hands-on engagement—whether that’s through my speaking events, books, or my work as a Realtor, where I guide clients through both the emotional and practical sides of the home-buying process.
I’m most proud of the impact I’ve had in people’s lives, whether through my books, speaking engagements, or community outreach programs. The messages I get from people telling me how my story has inspired them to keep going or make a change are priceless to me. And in real estate, I’m proud of helping people achieve homeownership, especially first-time buyers who are navigating this emotional and financial process for the first time. It’s so rewarding to help people take that step towards stability and build a foundation for their future.
Ultimately, I think what truly sets me apart is my authenticity and the way I weave my personal experiences into the work that I do. It’s not just about achieving external success for myself, it’s about helping others transform their own lives, whether through healing, empowerment, or achieving their dreams, like homeownership. My work is a reflection of my heart’s desire to give others the tools they need to heal and grow.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Absolutely! Finding a mentor and building a strong network can make a huge difference in your personal and professional growth. Here’s what has worked well for me and what I’d recommend:
1. Be Authentic and Transparent
One of the key things that helped me is being genuine. I’ve always been open about my journey, struggles, and aspirations. This openness has attracted people who connect with my story and can offer valuable advice or guidance. When you’re authentic, you naturally attract mentors and networks that resonate with your values and goals.
2. Seek Out Those Who Align With Your Values and Goals
A mentor is someone who can not only teach you but also inspire and challenge you to grow. Look for people whose values align with yours, and whose work or life path you admire. It’s not always about being in the same industry—sometimes the best mentors come from different backgrounds but share a similar passion for growth and development.
3. Start Small, Ask Meaningful Questions
You don’t have to dive right into asking someone to be your mentor. Instead, start by engaging with people you admire—whether that’s attending events, following their work, or reaching out with genuine questions. Often, a simple conversation or an insightful question can spark a connection. This gives you a chance to build a relationship first and see if there’s a potential mentorship fit.
4. Networking Isn’t Just About What You Can Gain—It’s About What You Can Offer
Networking is a two-way street. I’ve found that one of the best ways to build strong relationships is by offering something of value. It could be as simple as sharing your expertise, supporting someone else’s work, or offering assistance when you see an opportunity to help. This mindset has led to strong, reciprocal relationships.
5. Show Up Consistently
Mentorship and networking don’t happen overnight. I made a point to show up to events, meetings, or workshops consistently—whether they were in-person or virtual. This demonstrated my commitment to learning and growing, and it made it easier to build long-term connections with people in my field.
6. Leverage Social Media and Professional Platforms
Social media is a powerful tool for networking. LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter have helped me connect with people from all over the world. Engaging with people on these platforms by sharing your story, commenting on others’ posts, and offering valuable insights can open the door to networking opportunities.
7. Don’t Be Afraid to Reach Out
I’ve been amazed at how many doors have opened simply by reaching out to someone I admire. The worst someone can say is “no,” but you won’t know unless you ask. Whether it’s for advice, a quick chat, or to explore a potential collaboration, taking the initiative can lead to incredible opportunities.
8. Be Open to Mentors in Unexpected Places
Not all mentors are going to be formal, and they may not look like you expect. Some of my greatest mentors have been peers or people I met through less traditional settings. Stay open to learning from everyone around you, whether that’s someone a few steps ahead of you or someone who’s been on a completely different path but has valuable wisdom to share.
Ultimately, networking and finding mentors is about building relationships based on trust, respect, and mutual growth. What’s worked well for me is creating meaningful connections by showing up, being true to myself, and being open to learning from others. Keep putting yourself out there, and you’ll start to find the right people who will help guide you toward your goals.
