Meet Missy Loftis of Resolve Counseling Group, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Missy Loftis.

Hi Missy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I went through an overwhelmingly difficult period of grief and loss in my personal life which led me to reaching out and establishing care with a therapist. Through this process I found healing and restoration as well as a career helping others at some of their most painful moments. As soon as I completed graduate school I opened my private practice as a marriage and family therapist in Murfreesboro. After a few years I started training interns who needed placement for their practicum and internship and found this to be extremely rewarding as well as a way to expand my practice and provide care for more people in our community. On January 1, 2024 I launched a group therapy practice, Resolve Counseling Group, and we have grown to a now having eight clinicians plus myself and a care coordinator. It has been a lot of work and so rewarding!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha! Is any road to success ever smooth? Two of the biggest challenges I’ve faced in running the business have been managing the operational demands while developing stronger technical skills. And as the group practice kept growing month after month, I continued to see a full case load of my own clients as well as managing the team. So time management and self care have also, at times, been difficult.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am most proud that our practice takes our tag line “finding true healing and connection” seriously. Half our providers are trained in trauma specific and brain based modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, or Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). We want to help the client get to the root of what drives their symptomology and not get caught in the loop of treating the symptoms. This is very important to me as we want clients to experience an embodied sense of healing. This type of healing cannot happen without the relational component and alliance with clients. Our clinicians are warm, caring, and funny as well as smart, informed, and a safe connection for their clients. We offer individual, couples, and family counseling with a range of fees depending on the clinicians experience and training ($75-$190). Our team works well together, and we support one another enthusiastically. It is important to me as the business owner to have a work environment that allows for individual autonomy and for each clinician to bring their personality and creativity to the therapy practice. Our desire is to help each client achieve their goals and get back to living their lives.

How do you think about luck?
Great question….I suppose the “bad luck” of my personal life crisis in my 40s led me to this career and to finding my amazing husband who is my biggest cheerleader. There were some hard, hard years and I can now see that this is exactly where I am meant to be. Instead of thinking it is “good luck” to be where I am today I see it as a combination of drive, grit, determination and placing myself in situations and surrounding myself with people who are way smarter than me.
