Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Jergens and Faith Holt. Them and their team share their story with us below:
No Subject Apparel is clothing that connects. Through contemporary, mindful, and gender-neutral designs, No Subject Apparel promotes self-love and expression of identity.
Founders and Designers, Faith and Morgan, started No Subject Apparel out of their basement with one mission in mind – to create clothing that made people feel comfortable and empowered – inside and out.
We are who we are because of community. It means everything to us. We foster community through our apparel, prints, blog, and livestream events. We are strong believers in community service, which is why we donate $1 of every online order to No More Dysphoria, a queer-run 501(c)3 non-profit with the goal of helping trans and non-binary individuals financially through major aspects of their transitions.
We officially launched the business in March 2021 after a November 2020 visit to some old friends of Faith’s in Jackson, Mississippi. This family was there for Faith when she came out to her own family in June 2015, which just so happened to be just several days before marriage was legalized for LGBTQ+ couples. We realized the impact this time had on her and wanted to create a safe, welcoming community for others in the LGBTQ+ community.
So we found ourselves in the pandemic missing the community that had accepted us with open arms and allowed us to be who we are today, which sparked the idea of bringing that community together again in a place where they can freely express who they are. We believe the clothing you wear should also allow you to express who you are. We are dedicated to making high-quality, handmade apparel that does just that.
Now, you can find us at local LGBTQ+ events and online for our livestream events with LGBTQ+ musicians, artists, and even a chef!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business, especially with a partner, is never a smooth road. We had never done anything like this before. Over time, we found a groove. We figured out where each other’s strengths were and trusted each other to accomplish what they promised to do.
For Faith, it’s producing the items. For Morgan, it’s design and marketing. Together, we create a powerful team.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
No Subject Apparel is our passion, but it’s not what pays the bills for us at the end of the day.
Faith is a musician who works in customer support, which is perfect when you have a business.
Morgan is a marketing professional and Co-Founder of Twin Flame Creative Agency here in Nashville.
It’s honestly funny how our “9 to 5” jobs align with the needs of No Subject Apparel and allow us to amplify the mission of No Subject Apparel (clothing that connects).
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson we’ve learned along our journey is that it’s not easy. You see plenty of people doing it and it looks simple enough… but it’s never easy.
We’re so grateful for the journey because of the people we’ve had the pleasure to meet. There is nothing like vending at a local event, seeing everyone’s reactions to our clothing, getting to hear their stories, and hearing how they connect with the message.
We’ve learned how to work together, hold each other accountable, and be patient. It’s not something that happens overnight, but the journey is nevertheless rewarding.
