Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan White.
Hi Morgan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started off singing when I was two. My grandmother was a singer and I would travel with her a lot, she was really the one who taught me how to sing. I was always afraid to sing in front of people when I was in high school, but after I got out of high school, I decided that I didn’t care what people thought anymore and that I was going to do what made me happy. I posted a clip of a song that I recorded on Myspace and from there I guess you could say the rest is history.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My musical journey by no means has been a smooth road! I’m sure I have stories just like any other artist navigating their way through the business and trying to catch a break in Nashville. In this business you really have to keep your guard up. There are people who will take advantage of you. I grew up in a small town in West Virginia where everyone knows everyone. I was raised to always respect people and to trust people and I’ve learned the hard way that you can’t always trust people and not everyone has your best intentions in mind.
Don’t get me wrong Nashville is full of wonderful people who truly want the best for you. It’s just very hard to find those people, but when you do those are the ones you want to hold onto.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve known since my childhood that singing was my calling. I never dreamed that this would actually be my career in life and that I would get all the opportunities that I’ve had. Later on in my career, I began songwriting as well. I was always good at storytelling and writing poetry. Turns out this is a great gift to have when you become a songwriter. Songwriting opens up a whole new world, it lets you tell stories about yourself. It also allows you make up stories that other people can relate to. Songwriting can also be very personal; it can expose your weakest moments and your deepest thoughts.
It’s hard to sum up what I’m most proud of in my career. Most people would say I’ve accomplished a lot but being a true artist, you always want to accomplish more! It’s a never-ending struggle to always be better and to always accomplish more. I find myself always pushing to be a better singer, a better entertainer, and a better songwriter. If I had to pick something from my career that I was very proud of it would probably be winning Entertainer of The Year and Female Artist of The Year at the Josie Music Awards. The Josie Music Awards is the largest independent music awards in the world, they get more than 40,000 nominations so even being nominated is something to be proud of.
What sets me apart in this industry? I get asked this question a lot. As an artist, you’re always trying to set yourself apart and make yourself different from the millions of other artist in the world. You’re always trying to find that new niche and always trying to go above and beyond to make yourself stand out! I would say for me it’s just being genuine. There’s a ton of girls who can sing out there or can write great songs but are they truly that person when you meet them? I’ve always wanted to have a transparent relationship with my fans. They come to my concerts and they see on stage Morgan the artist, but after the show I want them to see and meet the real Morgan. Apart from all the glitz and glam, I’m still the same little country girl from West Virginia.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The music industry is constantly changing! It’s already changed in the small amount of time that I’ve been doing this. Everything seems to be going digital, and it all revolves around social media! Social media is a great platform that allows you to reach millions of fans who probably would’ve never heard of you before. It also allows you to stay connected to those fans, and have a one-on-one connection with them.
