Today we’d like to introduce you to Mr. Talkbox.
Hi Mr. Talkbox, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, my name is Byron Chambers aka Mr. Talkbox! I am from Orlando, FL, and now based in Nashville, TN. I’m married to my beautiful wife, Tammy. We’ve been married for over 24 years now and we have three wonderful kids who are all grown up and doing well! I got my start in music by playing drums in my Dad & Mom‘s gospel group at the age of 5 years old.
Fast forward, I got introduced to an instrument called the Talkbox in my early teens and ever since I heard the instrument I was fascinated and wanted to do it in Gospel Music. And eventually, after looking for it for years, I found that instrument.
I then put out my very first gospel Talkbox album called MY TESTIMONY. And then, I recorded four more Gospel/Christian albums after that and I recorded my first R&B/Soul record called “Playlist” with some SuperStar Features. Also along the way, I did some pretty big Gospel Features. But little did I know that my talents would take me to much broader platforms. I worked really hard on the instrument and I mastered it. And then I became The World’s Top Talkbox Artist!
Why did I become the world’s top Talkbox Artist? Well, because you’ve heard me on some of the biggest songs like The Multi-Grammy award-winning song called 24K Magic by Bruno Mars, The sampled Talkbox Voice on Kendrick Lamar’s Loyalty featuring Rihanna & Featured on Cardi B/ Bruno Mars Collab Please Me. Just to name a few.
Also as a solo artist, I’ve had five #1 Singles in Japan, a 2016 Grammy Award Nomination & is a 2 Time Dove Award Winner! I am featured on the Gospel Smash Hit “My God” by Cece Winans’ Nashville Life Music which peaked at #5 on The Gospel Top 100 Billboard Charts! I released my own single called “Never Leave You” featuring J Moss & my son Lil Byron which peaked at #3 On Billboard Gospel Charts! My R&B Album I mentioned also debuted at #4 on the R&B Charts!
I’ve been making waves on social media and around the world with my hit “Talkbox Pic Play Post Acapella videos” of chart-topping covers as well as some of my original material. With over 15 million views (collectively) on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok I’ve been able to create a buzz that crosses genres.
I’ve worked, performed & toured with such artists as Bruno Mars, T-Pain, Lyfe Jennings, Lecrae, NSYNC, Earth Wind & Fire, Andy Mineo, Nathan East, Thomas Rhett, TobyMac, Matthew West, Group 1 Crew, and Jonathan Butler.
I also co-headlined the Yamaha Grand Stage at the NAMM show in Anaheim California alongside popular acts such as Earth Wind & Fire, Sheléa, Avery, Sunshine, Kenny Loggins, and Internet sensation Verbalase and Nathan East. The stage was hosted by legendary actor and comedian SINBAD in front of over 50k in attendance.
This is literally a fraction of my story. I would encourage you to go to my YouTube page and watch my full story. I also did a Ted talk so I would encourage you to go check that out as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? No. I believe that’s for every person in every walk of life. When you’re trying to reach a goal it’s never “easy.”
Some of the struggles for me was not being able to get the backing financially that I needed to take my career to the next level. But God still provided for me. I kept on going and next thing you know I have multiple awards millions of followers and a great career.
If it had not been for my struggles I probably wouldn’t be as strong as I am now. I learned to embrace the process. Being broke actually made me rich. What I mean by that is that I didn’t have the financial backing it made me more creative and it made me wittier with the talents that I have.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
OK. What do I do? Well, I am an evangelist of the “funk!”
Lol, I bring that funky music, I make people dance, I encourage people, and I inspire people. I also make people laugh. I specialize in (what I call) gumbo music. You can’t really tie me down to one genre. As you can see, I show up on all types of songs and all types of genres. Of course, playing my instrument called the Talkbox. And that is what I am most known for. Being the best Talkbox Player in the world.
I am most proud of my growth in my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my wife, and my family. What sets me apart from others is that I put in the most work in making my sound signature unforgettable. When you hear me you will not think twice about who it is.
This is the reason why I am on so many hit records. Because again, humbly I say, I am the best at what I do.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I have learned along my journey is to never ever ever give up. You could be so close to your breakthrough and give up and miss your opportunity.
There are many times when I wanted to give up But I stayed with it. I kept pushing I kept fighting and I look back and pat myself on the back. Because I did not give up. So I would say stay prayed up and never give up.
