Today we’d like to introduce you to Nakessa Fields.
Hi Nakessa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started very young, singing around the house with my family and then at church, in the school choir, that sort of thing but I have always been a lover of music. I believe my love of music is what has brought me to where I am currently and there is something spiritual about sharing your gift with people allowing yourself to be a vessel for such wonderful works of God; that’s what keeps me going.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It ha snot been a smooth road in the slightest. There’s the imposter syndrome that tries to convince you that you’re not where you belong. Always having more things to pay for but almost never enough capitol to cover everything. being told no more than yes and the constant hurry to wait. The internal battles that you have with yourself about how creative you’re being or not being, are you original enough, do you have a tribe, are you doing enough, are you taking care of yourself well enough to even keep o this path, do you need to change direction, is it ok to take a break. But even through all the struggles there’s still light. I still have faith in myself and what I’m doing. I know everything will be alright because it always is an as long as I wake up tomorrow I have another chance to do better.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer and songwriter as well as digital creator (as we all have to be as creatives in this day and age). Still very new in the game and getting my footing in the industry. I am known for my singing and live performances. This will sound cliche, but I am what sets me apart from others the simple fact that I am me and I don’t try to be anyone but Nakessa.
What matters most to you?
People and the impact that I have on them through what I do. Music is a very powerful thing; a universal thing. Knowing that, with this gift that I’ve been given, I could change someone’s whole life for the better. I can encourage a stranger and heal a person’s heart who doesn’t even speak the same language as me. That’s what matters most to me, making the world and the people in it around me, near and far, better.
