Meet Nichole Foster of Imagination Creations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichole Foster.

Hi Nichole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a little different from everyone in my family. If you ask my mom, she’d say I was rebellious. I say, I just like being different! We often had a different variety of family functions from birthdays to holidays or just because it was Saturday and it was a good day to get together.

Often, each guest would bring a dish. Everyone loves a great Mac and Cheese (I loveeeee cheese!) I wanted to bring dishes that spoke to my personality and creativity. So I experimented and created things like apple pies made inside the apple, lasagna cupcakes, bacon wrapped meatloaf, and it was a batch of chocolate-covered Strawberries that started it all.

My husband’s uncle invited us over for a boxing match, and I brought chocolate-covered strawberries. They were a hit! My uncle asked me to make more for a surprise 25th Anniversary party back in 2015 to which I obliged. Once I figured out chocolate could be colored, it was a definite game changer. I told my uncle that I could make the strawberries the theme colors, and he was excited. He suggested I get business cards made because once everyone at the party saw them, they’d want some too. He helped to create my name, and Imagination Creations was born! September of 2015.

Fun Fact: I actually started with doing Centerpieces and blinging out items along with strawberries. Cake didn’t come along until almost three years into the business because cake absolutely terrified me!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Cake was a struggle, and then came fondant and then carving. Making a schedule for large production days was also a struggle. My least favorite thing is all the admin work for the business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Imagination Creations?
Imagination Creations is where you come for one of a kind deliciousness! We create custom cakes and a variety of sweets for all types of occasions. We started with chocolate-covered strawberries, and it is still a staple item here. I’m very proud of our growth and couldn’t have done it without the support of my husband, family, friends, and clients. One of our biggest accomplishments is being contacted by 1 800 Flowers to become a partner and later also obtaining the contract for Sherries Berries. We offer a unique experience where the client is involved in the creation of their vision. With many things being customized, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind product.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe the cake industry will be here for a while. People have a sweet tooth, and for some people cake brings back sweet nostalgia. There are always trends being created, and that’s what makes the industry fun. A current trend I’m working on getting out is turning the cake board into a grazing/charcuterie board of complementing sweets and treats that goes with the cake.
