Today we’d like to introduce you to Nigel Dupree.
Hi Nigel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
To start the journey, I was born and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland. I started on a path having nothing to do with cooking. I went to college for a year, came home, went to barber school, passed, and cut hair for 2 years. After this, I moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, in 2015 and had my first actual cooking job. I have always cooked from about 9 to 10 years old but nothing on the restaurant level. After working at every end, from fast food to sushi to country club to the bakery to wood-fired oven restaurant, etc., I took things from all these different cuisines and cooking techniques and formed my style, which is Famish’d Eats. I started this business in 2016 with little success but have grown tremendously.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road from having to fund your own new business and still pay bills to a tough job. It took a while for it to be profitable for me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Famish’d Eats is a Nashville-based private chef, catering, meal prep, and cooking class black-owned business. My passion for providing top-quality service and using the best ingredients sets me apart. I don’t like to classify myself into a particular cuisine or specialty dish as people tend to put me in a bubble. For example, if you say fried chicken is your specialty, people tend to think now you can only do soul food. I say I have a wide range of things that I can do, but if I had to say a particular dish, I would say my shrimp, grits, and strawberry cheesecake. I also have a wild mind for creations and new things to fuse. I’m the proudest brand-wise for the seasoning and sauce line I launched. Please contact me for all your private chef, catering, meal prep, and cooking class needs. Also, you can visit my website at shopfamishdeats.com 240-406-6326.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Never give up. There will be many lows, but it will pay out in the end.
