Today we’d like to introduce you to Nubia Soul Goddess .
Hi Nubia Soul Goddess, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’ve always loved music and the arts in some form since I was a little girl. My mom was a devout Christian growing up, so I spent a lot of time in church begrudgingly. I was more interested in the music and the food, lol. I had an older cousin named Lena, who often prepared food for the church. I swear that woman could cook the best fish and grits you ever tasted. But the music was my driving force. I wanted to feel something, and music felt like something. My older third cousin was the church pastor’s wife, and she played the organ and piano. That’s where my love started. I have been in love with a keyboard and drum my entire life. You’ve got to feel it to understand. That’s god in a way that most don’t understand. I’m talking about sound, tones, and vibrational frequencies that cause things to BE, something from nothing. If that is not god, you just aren’t doing it right. But it’s beautiful and fine and ugly, but all love, life, healing, and transformation in music. Well, my mom decided to invest in my clear interest in music, and my passion began with classical piano lessons around the age of 9. Man, I loved Mrs. Georgia Brown. My Saturday mornings started to become crazy and amazing with her teaching me classical piano, with a little funk and Boogey on the organ. I learned to love Beethoven, Mozart, & Chopin. Symphonies and classical music, damn, I just had an epiphany, lol.
Funny how you never forget the people who made huge impacts on your life for your ultimate destiny. I played marching and concert percussion in middle and high school. That’s when my teachers realized I could play by ear. For some reason, I tried the trumpet during that time, but I couldn’t hang with it, and ultimately my domain was a snare, the quints, xylophone, and tympani. I know, total band geek, lol. But it was hella fun. Then in my early teens, I decided I wanted to sing in the choir. I don’t think it dawned on me yet that I wanted to make music as an adult. I wasn’t even really thinking that far yet, to be honest. If I’m being totally honest, by the time I was 16, my mom had bought me 2 cars, I had a part-time job, was on the right college track in high school, and was in band and choir rehearsals and events several days of the week. I was living my best life! Lol, But then life started happening.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Listen, you can’t get through this life on this planet in this realm and dimension without going through obstacles. That is the very fabric of this existence. So hell yeah, I have had bumps in the road with struggles that were pretty ugly sometimes. Abusive exes are at the top of the list. But I’ve had some great exes too. Beautiful friendships have helped me, and beautiful spiritual life has kept me from calling it quits regarding the many struggles I’ve overcome. My daughter has been my saving grace and my driving force. My struggles are worth watching her grow into an amazing young lady. But with each level in life and my career comes different struggles. But each one unlocks something inside of you that can go either way. When things go left in my life, music is the thing I use to make it go right, and it hasn’t failed me yet.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a music artist and published author specializing in musical magic juju, where my soul speaks to yours. I’m most proud of EVERYTHING I do. Everything I produce from combining and manipulating natural elements is something to be proud of. Being able to take negative thoughts and situations and turn them into positive ones is amazing. And then to use that very thing to connect to others without touching them physically, that’s magic. Those people sharing what you created is purpose. I know my purpose and destiny. It’s bigger than me.
