Today we’d like to introduce you to Nude Bodies.
Hello, Nude Bodies; we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Mitchell had moved to Chicago from the South (with times in Chattanooga and Bristol) and met Aaron and Jordan in the first year there. We met through the Chicago comedy scene and overlapping stints as tour guides. Quickly we realized our mutual interests went beyond comedy into various strains of early-90s underground rock, post-rock, contemporary noise rock, electronic music, ambient, funk, and jazz. We started honing our live performance as the musical guest for shows at The Hideout, The Annoyance, and iO then began jumping on music-only bills at dive bars and venues around the city, like The Burlington and Beat Kitchen. We continue to push boundaries wherever we have the opportunity.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Chicago has a welcoming, inclusive performing arts scene, so finding other bands to set up shows with was never very difficult; venues that suited our decibel level were a bit more challenging. As we discovered more venues where people were there for the music, not for bar chatter, our audiences became more enthusiastic.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Nude Bodies is a four-piece band that revels in an expanse of dreamy noise, fuzz, distortion, and melody: comprised of Jordan Wilson (vocals, guitar), Aaron Homard (drums, electronics), Mitchell Land (guitar, vocals), and Lucas Lefrancois (bass), each member brings their strengths to the space every time we meet, giving each other the freedom to experiment, explore, and delve into new sounds. Nothing is off the table (including covering Cher to rapturous ecstasy emanating from all sorts of audiences). We continue to grow our sound and audience through dedication to chasing vibrations and tones that pleasantly surprise us and those within earshot.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We’re planning a tour around the Southeast (with Nashville high on the list of stops!), but in the meantime, we encourage soon-to-be fans to check out our live session on our YouTube channel, a collaboration with the wonderful Playground Social. It’s a great way to hear us in our element while enjoying the PGS crew’s analog visual effects and editing. Highlight: “Flowers,” which starts tender and ends in a roar.
