Meet Patrick Cassidy of Studio Tenn Theatre Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Cassidy.

Hi Patrick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up surrounded by theater and storytelling. It’s very much in my blood. Over the course of my career, I’ve had the privilege of performing on Broadway, in film, on television and directing and producing in a variety of settings. Those experiences shaped not only my artistic perspective but also my belief in the power of theater to connect people. When the opportunity to join Studio Tenn as Artistic Director came about in 2019, it felt like the natural next chapter.

Now in its 16th season, Studio Tenn is fulfilling its vision of bringing professional, Broadway-caliber theater to Middle Tennessee while nurturing local talent and fostering community engagement. From its early productions in small venues to becoming a fully recognized nonprofit, Studio Tenn has continued to grow tremendously, becoming the only professional nonprofit theater company in Williamson County, with its home at Turner Theater inside the Factory at Franklin.

Since stepping into this role, I’ve been inspired by the incredible talent here and by how Studio Tenn has become a place where both artists and audiences can experience truly transformative storytelling — whether through our large-scale productions, educational programs or outreach initiatives that bring theater to new audiences across the region.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many nonprofit theaters, we’ve faced challenges ranging from financial sustainability to the unexpected disruption of the pandemic. But those struggles have shaped us in meaningful ways. They pushed us to reimagine how we connect with our audiences, how we use our resources and how we stay true to our mission even when circumstances shift. Each challenge reinforced the incredible dedication of our team, the generosity of our donors, the importance of our community partnerships and the incredible support of our board. Without everyone working together, none of this would be possible.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Studio Tenn Theatre Company is a professional regional theatre company and a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Franklin, Tennessee. It is one of the most celebrated and well-attended theatre companies in the southeast. Studio Tenn is proud to be bringing world-class, professional theatre productions and artists to Middle Tennessee. With its home at Turner Theater inside the Factory at Franklin, Studio Tenn exists to captivate and inspire with Broadway-quality musicals, plays, and concerts while educating the next generation to create and delight in the experience of live theatre.

Its 2025-26 season begins with “Dracula” on October 9, a spine-chilling theatrical performance, followed by “White Christmas,” a heartwarming, nostalgic holiday story that’s perfect for the entire family. Entering 2026, the lineup continues with the Broadway thriller “Deathtrap” and the award-winning comedy “Boeing Boeing.” The season concludes with the epic rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” starring Tony Award nominee, Adam Pascal. Tickets are available at studiotenn.org.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’ve spent more than 40 years in entertainment. For much of that time, I was an actor, but I wanted to do more. I longed to reach people in a different way than performing. Becoming a director, producer and ultimately an artistic director allows me to do that. It provides me with a way to give back. With all the experiences I’ve had, I feel I can truly contribute to Franklin, and Studio Tenn has given me the opportunity to do just that.

What often surprises people is how much Studio Tenn invests in education and mentorship. Beyond producing Broadway-quality shows, we spend a tremendous amount of time guiding young artists from local schools, providing training and creating opportunities for emerging talent to learn the craft in a professional setting. Our goal isn’t just to put on great productions; it’s to nurture the next generation of theater makers who will carry this art form forward.
