Today we’d like to introduce you to Perla Mendoza.
Hi Perla , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to Nashville in 1996 and began my career in radio in 2000. Music has always been a major part of my life—I have been singing since I was 15 years old. After arriving in Nashville, I performed as a solo artist and later with several local bands while continuing my work in radio.
A few years later, I joined Univision Nashville, where I worked as an entertainment reporter, covering events and interviewing artists. In 2008, I started hosting karaoke nights at various restaurants throughout the city and organized singing competitions to help discover and promote new local talent.
Beyond entertainment, I am passionate about animal rescue. I dedicate time to rescuing abandoned cats, providing them with food and care, and finding them loving forever homes.
I am also the founder of Oye Media Nashville, a social media news platform dedicated to keeping the Hispanic community in Nashville and Middle Tennessee informed with local news, community updates, and important public information.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a challenging journey. Building a career in a country with so much cultural diversity is not easy, and earning the trust and support of the community takes time, dedication, and perseverance.
Despite the challenges, I have remained committed to doing what I love. Whether through music, media, community outreach, or animal rescue, my goal has always been to make a positive impact and serve the people around me. Every experience has helped shape who I am today and has motivated me to continue growing while giving back to the community that has supported me throughout the years.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in connecting with the Hispanic community through media, music, and community service. I’m the founder of Oye Media Nashville, where I share local news and important information, and I’ve spent many years working in radio, television, and live entertainment. I’m also passionate about rescuing and rehoming abandoned cats.
What I’m most proud of is earning the trust of my community. I believe what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about helping people, whether it’s by keeping them informed, entertaining them, or giving a voice to those who need one.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I have always been someone who enjoys moving forward and striving to achieve my goals. I like taking on new challenges, I have a cheerful personality, and I truly enjoy helping others.
