Today we’d like to introduce you to Pete Healey.
Hi Pete, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to the arts whether through music, live performance, design, or photography.
It’s part of my DNA.
For nearly 30 years, I toured globally as a Production Manager, Show Designer, and Audio Engineer at the arena and stadium level. That experience continues to shape my photography today; especially in the way I approach lighting, atmosphere, storytelling, and cinematic editorial imagery.
Early last year, I experienced a major life shift after suffering a heart attack. Prior to that, much of my photography focused on underwater and general photography, combining a lifelong passion for imagery with more than 30 years of scuba diving. After the health event, I was no longer able to dive, which forced me to reimagine both my creative direction and my future.
That transition led me to become far more intentional with my work in creative editorial, fashion, portraiture, and lifestyle photography. Since then, I’ve expanded into runway and fashion event coverage, including New York Fashion Week and showcases for independent designers, while continuing to develop more stylized and narrative-driven imagery.
Today, I work from a highly equipped and versatile studio in the Nashville area while also traveling regularly for photography clients.
My goal is to create imagery that feels elevated, emotionally engaging, and rooted in both technical precision and authentic human connection; while cultivating an environment that is safe, collaborative, and built on integrity and respect.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Fortunately, it’s been a relatively smooth road overall. That said, I think any creative path comes with its own challenges, and many of them are self-imposed. As creatives, we constantly push ourselves beyond what’s simply “good enough,” always striving to evolve, improve, and create work that feels meaningful and authentic.
A big part of the journey is finding your voice and discovering not only what inspires you creatively, but also what genuinely brings you joy in the process. There are always moments of doubt, reinvention, and learning to trust your instincts, especially when transitioning into new areas of work or redefining yourself creatively.
For me, one of the most significant challenges was the life pivot after my heart attack. Losing the ability to continue underwater photography forced me to rethink both my creative direction and my identity as an artist. In many ways, though, that challenge ultimately pushed me toward more intentional and emotionally driven work, which has been incredibly rewarding.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In addition to my more creative editorial work, I work with a wide variety of clients ranging from restaurants, hospitality brands, and live concert events to experienced models, portfolio development, runway coverage, and agency work. I also love working with newer models and everyday individuals who may have no interest in modeling at all, but simply want elevated, intentional imagery that helps them feel confident and seen in a different way. For me, some of the most rewarding work comes from helping people step outside of their everday lane and creating images that feel both authentic and aspirational.
What I’m most proud of is creating an environment where people feel comfortable, respected, and genuinely collaborative throughout the creative process. Technical skill is important, but I believe trust, communication, and authenticity are just as essential in creating meaningful imagery.
I’ve never been someone who focuses heavily on comparing my work to others or trying to define how I “stand apart.” Nashville has an incredibly talented and supportive creative community filled with amazing photographers, artists, designers, and creators. My philosophy has always been to encourage one another, learn from each other, and help elevate the community as a whole rather than compete within it.
That mindset is one of the reasons I’m proud to be involved with the Nashville Creatives Club, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing creatives with a safe, welcoming environment to collaborate and create together. I was recently invited to serve on the advisory board, which has been incredibly meaningful to me.
NCC hosts monthly “Creatives Day” events at a variety of unique locations, along with networking mixers, coffee meetups, educational workshops, and mentorship opportunities. At its core, it’s an inclusive community built around creativity, connection, and supporting one another, and I’m honored to be a part of it.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are honestly pretty simple at their core: continue learning something new every day, continue growing as an artist, and continue cultivating meaningful relationships and creative opportunities.
One of the things I’ve learned through both life and photography is that growth never really stops. I’m always looking to evolve creatively, push myself outside of what feels familiar, and stay open to inspiration from the people and experiences around me.
I’m excited and encouraged by what’s ahead, including the unknown parts of it. Some of the best opportunities and creative moments in my life have come from unexpected places, so I try to approach the future with curiosity, gratitude, and an openness to wherever the journey leads next.
