Today we’d like to introduce you to Preston Morelock.
Hi Preston, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been playing in bands for many years, but things really took a turn when I moved to Florida in 2010. I started a party band to entertain tourists along the Gulf Coast, and that eventually led to a chance meeting with legendary songwriter/producer Chas Sandford. He saw potential in us and expressed interest in working together on original music. That was the beginning of an exciting new chapter—writing original songs and sharing the stage with some of our heroes, including Sebastian Bach, Slaughter, LIT, Living Colour, LA Guns, and more.
A few years later, we brought in former LA Guns vocalist Scott Foster Harris, released a new album featuring collaborations with Mark Slaughter and Jim Riley of Rascal Flatts, and signed a record deal with Spectra Music Group. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with such talented people, and the journey just keeps getting better.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve been in bands for years, and it’s always felt like an uphill grind. Musicians can be tough to work with—keeping everyone happy and on the same page is a constant challenge. Social media is another big one for me. Trying to stay on top of all the pages, profiles, and promo stuff can be overwhelming. Sometimes it feels like you spend more time promoting than actually writing or playing music, which is the part we love most.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I own an entertainment company called Soundwaves Entertainment, and I manage and play guitar for my band, Kickstand Jenny. I specialize in songwriting and band management. At the end of the day, this is show business—and I never forget that second word. I’ve always had a business mindset, which has helped me keep the band on track and moving forward.
People know me as someone who’s easy to work with. I try to keep things simple, treat everyone with respect, and create a positive environment for the people around me.
One thing I’m really proud of is the concept album I wrote during the COVID shutdown. Since we couldn’t play shows, I finally had time to really focus on writing. I brought in some amazing artists to collaborate, and that project ended up getting multiple offers from record labels, which was huge for me.
I think what sets me apart is my work ethic. I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty and do the hard stuff. My brain’s always going—coming up with new ideas, planning the next move, figuring out how to make things better. Talent is great, but it doesn’t mean much if you’re not willing to work. Success shows up after the work does.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Honestly, the most important quality that’s led to my success is just plain hard work. I show up every day, even when it’s tough, and I put in the time. I’m always thinking ahead, trying to find ways to improve or take things to the next level. There are a lot of talented people out there, but talent only gets you so far—what really makes the difference is being willing to grind it out and stay consistent. I don’t wait around for luck; I work for it.
