Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafe Carlson.
Hi Rafe, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was selling RVs in Duluth, Minnesota when I started writing music. When summer 2021 rolled around, I quit my job and began making a full-time living as a performing musician in Duluth.
Soon after I was connected with a management team and introduced to my current producer, Jeff Huskins. I started making biweekly trips to Nashville to write, record, and perform music. Now, we’ve just about completed my debut record and are working on deciding on a recording contract!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some things seemed to happen fast, while others took time. It wasn’t all smooth, in the music industry plans fall apart, people bail on you, things get rescheduled, and when you’re only living part-time in Nashville, rescheduling can be difficult.
Making ends meet hasn’t always been easy, as I could always count on making enough to pay the bills from playing in Minnesota, but not in Nashville, so I always had to be strategic in how set up my trips and how long I was gone.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a vocalist, guitarist, performing, and recording musician. I make music people can groove to that tends to be in the rock/country world, and always on the groovy side. I am very proud of the record my producer and I have created, as it’s almost done and I’m very excited for everyone to hear it!
I think what sets me apart most is what people will notice as soon as they put this record on. It’s not boring. Not every song sounds the same. I think the country music industry has a lot of “copy-paste” going on right now as far as how songs are composed and produced, and that’s not at all what we did here.
However, the whole album has a cohesive feel to it, meaning it’s not hard to pin down. All the songs go together but they’re all very different. The sound will be unmistakable.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If you’d like to listen to a single from the upcoming album, it’s called Lost and Found, and you can find it under Rafe Carlson on all streaming platforms!
