Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Meadows.
Hi Rebecca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello, my name is Rebecca Meadows. I am a licensed massage therapist, a certified medical massage practitioner, and the owner of Spirit of Life Therapeutic Massage. I opened my practice on January 2, 2022, though I have been working in the massage field since 2017. This is the story of how it all came together.
From a young age, I knew I wanted to work in healthcare. I spent hours pouring over anatomy books and studying human diseases. The complexity of the human body fascinated me, and I felt a strong desire to help people heal. My childhood, however, was troubled. My parents did not encourage or push me the way many healthy parents do. When I was thirteen, they separated, and I stayed with my mother while my father left to get sober.
My mother soon began a downward spiral, and by the time I was fourteen, I became a ward of the state due to her issues. At fifteen, I went to live with my aunt. Despite everything, I stayed focused on my interest in medicine. In high school, I took a course that allowed me to work at the VA Hospital in Murfreesboro. I rotated through several departments, including medical filing, the ICU, and kinesiotherapy. They even offered me a job in medical filing after graduation. I also had the opportunity to compete in a medical terminology competition in Houston, Texas.
All of that changed when I found out I was pregnant with my son. I turned those opportunities down, dropped out of school, and later earned my GED at Pearl-Cohn High School here in Nashville. Shortly after that, my mother passed away. I then found myself in a deeply unhealthy relationship that caused me to lose everything, including my job, my home, my car, and
my son went to live with his father until I found housing.
That period was the lowest point of my life, but it was also the beginning of my transformation. I was homeless for about six weeks, often sleeping on the ground as winter approached. Eventually, I found a job, and my grandmother allowed me to stay with her. Soon after, my son was able to come home. For years, I worked exhausting, low-paying jobs and kept thinking, “I have to do better, not just for myself, but for my son.”
I had stepped away from the medical field partly because my mother struggled with opioid addiction, which ultimately led to her passing. That experience made me question why healing so often relied on medication instead of more natural approaches. That was when the idea of massage therapy was planted in my heart by God. I spent nearly five years thinking about whether it was the right path for me. In 2016, I finally took the leap and enrolled at Mind Body Institute LLC. I loved that massage therapy allowed me to stay in healthcare while helping people heal naturally without medication or surgery.
After graduating, I worked at several franchise massage clinics. While the experience was valuable, therapists were often underpaid, and I knew from the beginning that my ultimate goal was to open my own practice. I paid close attention to what worked, what didn’t, and what clients truly valued so that one day I could do it better myself.
Eventually, I took the steps to open Spirit of Life Therapeutic Massage. I hired a marketing professional to help me get started, but I knew that if people came through my doors, they would return. I focused heavily on top-tier customer service and built my business largely through Google reviews and word of mouth. This year, I was honored to be recognized as one of the Top 5 Massage Therapists in Davidson County based on Google review rankings through Business Rate.
Massage therapy is more than a career to me. It is my calling. It gives my life purpose, and that is an incredible feeling. My goal is simple: to ensure every client receives the highest level of care, compassion, and healing when they walk through my doors.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having big goals never comes easy, but it is always worth it. Everything I have achieved was to show my son and others that if you want something bad enough you can make it happen through hard work and dedication, and I truly hope my story will inspire others.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Spirit of Life Therapeutic Massage ?
I am a certified medical massage therapist specializing in deep tissue and sports massage. I also offer hot stone therapy, cupping, gua-sha, Kinesio taping, aromatherapy, and chair massage. What truly sets me apart is my attention to detail and my commitment to genuinely listening to my clients’ needs. Massage is, at its core, a service industry, and I believe every client deserves the highest level of personalized care.
The inspiration for my brand came from my faith and my love for the outdoors. I am a believer in God, and the hands in my logo represent prayer and massage since you use your hands for massage. The sun rising behind them reflects both spiritual renewal and my enjoyment of hiking, symbolizing a sunrise over a mountain. My business name, Spirit of Life, carries that same spiritual meaning. While my faith in Christ is important to me, everyone is welcome at my practice regardless of race, religion, political beliefs, or sexual orientation.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe my success comes from a strong work ethic, clear and honest communication, and a commitment to continuing my education within the field. Above all, I strive to provide every client with the highest level of professional care possible.
