Meet Remy Watters of Vintage Remnants

Today we’d like to introduce you to Remy Watters.

Hi Remy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My husband and I drove across country with all of our belongings stuffed into in an old 2 door Cadillac at the beginning of March, 2020. We left Northern California the day the state shut down due to the pandemic, and relocated to Franklin, TN. Moving into our first home was a bit different considering buying furniture, let alone groceries, was IMPOSSIBLE. I got a bit creative and spent endless hours scouring Facebook Marketplace to furnish our 3 bedrooms, empty, home on a tight budget. So, let’s fast forward a year and a half, I still spend countless hours scouring Facebook Marketplace for great deals. Only difference today is, I make a living flipping those finds for a profit instead of working a 9-5. Which is kind of funny, because now I work 6am-12am, but at least I can say I’m a proud small business owner!

I redo vintage/antique furniture, I resell new furniture, I can rehome just about anything.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Growing pains come in all shapes and sizes for small businesses. For me, it was found in my marriage. My husband also works from home, selling on Amazon. When I came along and started stock piling furniture and all sorts of “weird things” in our garage he was concerned he’d married a hoarder. It started to look like both of our career paths came with a lot of “baggage”, which it did. We fought for storage space, supplies and me needing to turn down my sander so he could read his emails clearly, LOL.

I’ve come to terms with there will NEVER be enough room, storage, or space for a reseller and he’s come to terms with never knowing which furniture in our house is staged or actually ours. At the end of the day, he’s been a great partner in life and in business, helping me whenever I need an extra hand or 2.

If you’re reading this Stephen, I appreciate you and couldn’t do it without you!

As you know, we’re big fans of Vintage Remnants. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Vintage Remnants is me. I’m the product sourcer. I’m the refinisher. I’m the delivery guy. I’m the photographer. I’m the product lister. I’m the social media manager. I’m the messenger. From start to finish, it’s me.

I started off as a young, eco minded, 23-year-old. Wanting to not waste a single thing, and heavens to betsy would I ever stand by as I saw something being thrown out. Even the oddest of things, I was determined to find a use for. I’ve used “what are you going to do with that” to spark my imagination and give anything a second chance at life.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Vintage Remnants is booming because: People are moving in and out of Tennessee in the masses.

My business will be affected once that slows down. I don’t have a plan B, but just like trends change, we ebb and flow and hope to continue to fill people’s homes and businesses with upcycled furniture and home decor.
