Meet Rhonda Shaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Shaw.

Hi Rhonda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always sketched and enjoyed art. One day I went to sips and strokes with some friends in 2017, and realized, this is something I’d like to do. One day a friend of mine asked me to do a sip and paint at her home for her housewarming, so I did, and the rest is history. We took pictures and posted them, not necessarily promoting, but just sharing the fun we had, and people saw it and wanted to do sip and paint parties. Soon I was all over Nashville and surrounding areas carrying painting supplies and throwing paint parties at people’s homes. It soon became a great side hustle, keeping me busy every weekend with adult and children’s paint parties. I recently opened an art studio in Murfreesboro TN to host paint parties.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was pretty smooth at first, with social media and client referrals made by previous clients, then Corona hit. Paint parties were canceled or postponed, so I started doing At-Home paint kits, which included everything I brought to your home, except easels. So I included pre-drawn canvases, paint, brushes, aprons, and instructions, came up with a price list, and gave the option for virtual (zoom) parties, or just the supplies with instructions.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What do you do, I am a local, self-taught artist who is enthusiastic about sharing my gifts and talents with others what do you specialize in, I specialize in art, (commissions, custom art, and paint parties)

I’m known for bringing black art to the sip and paint platform.  I am proud of how far I’ve come. I started out with a few supplies, (which I purchased with my own money) great clients, and now the opening of my art studio to host paint parties when I’m not mobile.

I have a more personable approach to teaching and engaging others in art. My paint parties are personal, intimate, and fun. No one ever leaves my paint party with an ugly (non-hangable) picture. You will definitely get your money’s worth.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been an artist. Fun, outgoing, and lover of people. All people. I have always been family-oriented and hard-working.
