R’Ligion, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I first found the love of music when I was 5 years old. From the time my mom had music playing from the radio, any melody in a song would get stuck. From the radio, to tv shows, soundtracks and more… it was where it all started.
When I was younger, I kept my love for music a secret. Because society wanted to make me think that music and singing wasn’t the manliest thing to do, I hid from everyone.
As I got older, my brother was the one that really put me on to music. His room was beside mine, so I would imitate and really learn from him wanting to be a rapper and that was when I started to really appreciate the style of rap, along with R&B.
It all came naturally.
But music is 100% who I am, and what I love to do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. At first, I had to really learn what was realistic for me. And music just didn’t really seem possible at certain times. The lack of support, the judgement, and uncertainty, it really interfered with who I was and who I wanted to be.
It was never an easy path to go down. But it was certain music that I would half to put on to really tap into who I am as an human being then an artist to really tune out all of the outside noise.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
First and foremost rap is my main focus. Although I strive to be versatile in many different avenues for entertainment. When it comes to my lyrics and a mic, that’s what sets me apart from a lot of other artists.
