Today we’d like to introduce you to Rod Milbourn
Rod, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born into a musical family. My Mother and dad both played instruments and sang and traveled all over the United States, preaching and singing. Singing and playing became a love and passion for me at an early age. I was involved in marching band and choir in high school and developed a love for directing choirs when I was 19 and in college.
Throughout my music career, I have developed several gospel choirs, not only in the church, but in the community. It has always been a passion of mine to bring people together to worship! My current group, the Nashville Community Gospel Choir was founded in 2021. It started as a small ensemble based out of my home church, the Pavillion church. I felt the need to reach out into the community and started letting friends know that we were forming a community choir! Word-of-mouth and the excitement of the choir started attracting people from all over the Nashville area and even into West Tennessee. In June 20 23, we were privileged to win the gospel competition, Large Choir Category in Atlanta, Georgia, How Sweet The Sound! This is a prestigious gospel Competition that has been in place for many years!
Nashville community choir is a ministry to the Nashville area, we love to go where people are and minister! We are currently preparing to go into the studio and release our first ever original single!! In 2025 we will be releasing a full album!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Doing music ministry is never easy. There are so many pieces that have to come together with a large group. Finding rehearsal times and places, Coming up with financial resources and traveling as a large group can get complicated. Even though it is a lot of work to keep a large group together, I have to say this group is committed and faithful, and we are just like a big family!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been in full-time Music ministry on staff at several churches and along the way have also worked in Music sales. I currently work for Southwest airlines and also do music on an almost full-time basis between my local church and the community choir.
I guess you could say I am known most for directing Choir and working with people vocally! I love seeing raw talent and developing it helping people find their niche in music!
They have been some amazing vocal talents come out of my labor. I was the church choir Director and school choir Director for the Rock group Kings of Leon and most recently Goodbye June. The vocalist of Goodbye June is my son Landon Milbourn.
What makes you happy?
Music and singing makes me happy. Bringing people together that have the same passion for God and ministry is so fulfilling for me.
Also, being with my family, which includes my son, daughter and their families and my three grandsons!!
