Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Gennaro.
Hi Sandy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I received a toy drum for Christmas when I was 3 years old. That lit the fire. Saw The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show (their 1st appearance on US TV.) That fanned the flame inside me. Got my first drumset when I was 14. Played parties and HS dances then my 1st bar gig at 16. Got my 1st pro recording session at 26 yrs. old. Went on to record and tour with several platinum artists 3 of which are in the R&R HOF – Michael Bolton, The Pat Travers Band, Cyndi Lauper, The Monkees, Bo Diddley (HOF), Johnny Winter (HOF), Joan Jett, and The Blackhearts (HOF) and several others. I’m 70 now and still active in the music industry. A small act of kindness toward a handicapped woman led me to a speaking career which has proven to be very successful. It’s become my primary business today. I’m grateful and appreciative and not afraid to show it!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve successfully navigated the shark-infested waters of the Music Business for over a half-century. Falling victim to the many unscrupulous sharks, taking advantage of hungry, naive musicians emotionally and financially is commonplace. Belief in THE HIGHER POWER and yourself is necessary to move past these transgressions.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a versatile Rock and Roll drummer and now a successful motivational speaker spreading the word that Belief, Enthusiasm, Attitude, Tenacity, and Service (B.E.A.T.S) are necessary ingredients for a successful business AND personal life. I’m known for my consistency and dependability and service to others in both my playing and speaking careers. I’m proud if the fact that after 56 years I’m still going strong physically, emotionally, and professionally. What set me apart is my “B.E.A.T.S.”
What are your plans for the future?
To keep doing what I’m doing until I cannot do it any longer. I’m loving life and am thankful for each day!
