Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Beth Bivens.
Hi Sara Beth, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been a dreamer and a wanderer. I was raised as the youngest of four girls in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Growing up in the 1980s was pretty blissful, and it was a small town back then. My best friend had horses, and we spent our days riding bareback through creeks and neighborhoods and just exploring. We were allowed to wander, discover, and be kids. Those early years sparked my love of the outdoors, adventure, and meeting new people.
My parents traveled often, and they would send me to visit family and friends as an unaccompanied minor. The flight attendants always took such good care of me that I decided early on I wanted to be one. I remember career day in high school, where you could choose three professions to learn about. I picked flight attendant, travel agent, and realtor. Funny enough, I’ve done all three.
After earning my degree from Western Kentucky University, I was hired by United Airlines in 1990 and flew for 17 years. I loved the travel, the people, the adventure, and the friendships. Flying wasn’t just a job; it became part of who I am.
I loved seeing new cities and different styles of homes from coast to coast and around the world. Travel sparked my love of architecture, design, history, and culture. One of my greatest gifts was being able to use my flight benefits to take my family on adventures and create memories together.
During those years, I had three amazing sons. Eventually, it was time to hang up my wings and focus on family. As my boys grew and my mother was diagnosed with cancer, someone needed to be home. So home I stayed. I volunteered, worked part-time in the travel industry, and did whatever was needed to help support our family.
At the same time, I continued to be fascinated with Real Estate. A perfect Sunday included mass, lunch, and open houses. My boys and I loved looking at homes. That passion eventually led me to earn my RE license, and what started as an interest became a second career that combined everything I love: houses, people, and helping others find their place in the world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life has taught me that there is no such thing as a perfectly smooth road. The challenges we face and how we navigate them shape who we become. While I’ve built a career I love, my proudest role has always been being a mom. My greatest accomplishment will always be my three sons.. Watching them grow into the men they are today has been one of the greatest joys of my life. But those years were not without challenges.
As my boys entered their teenage years, my parents’ health began to decline. We navigated cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia while balancing school activities, sports, work, and everyday life. At the same time, my marriage was struggling, and after 25 years together, my husband and I divorced. Within a relatively short period of time, I lost both of my parents, went through a difficult divorce, lost the extended family that had been part of my life for decades, and became an empty nester. All while working to build a career and support children in college.
Looking back, those difficult years brought my sons and me even closer together. We leaned on one another, laughed together, and rebuilt a sense of joy in our lives. Holidays brought everyone home, often along with a collection of friends, and our home became filled with life again. We eventually sold our longtime family home and started fresh. In late 2019, we moved into a smaller house, and when the pandemic arrived, four people and five animals found themselves sharing close quarters. It was chaotic, crowded, and surprisingly wonderful.
The road certainly wasn’t smooth, but it was meaningful. Every challenge taught me resilience, gratitude, empathy, and the importance of finding happiness, even during difficult times.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My love of homes, people, yoga, travel, and Tennessee eventually became my niche.
Even after more than 15 years in real estate, I still learn something new every day. I love listening to what people want for their lives and helping them navigate one of their biggest decisions. Real estate is about so much more than contracts and houses. It’s about helping people find where they belong.
My specialty is helping people see not only the home, but the life that comes with it. Whether it’s a first-time buyer, a growing family, an empty nester, or someone relocating to Tennessee, I love helping clients discover the neighborhoods, communities, and experiences that make a house feel like home. As well as investors to show locations and potential income.
Clients often tell me that what sets me apart is my ability to truly listen. I take the time to understand not only what they need, but how they want to live. My background in travel, hospitality, and wellness taught me that every person has a unique story, and every move is about much more than square footage.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have become a yoga/barre instructor. Through travel and study, I learned the value of slowing down, being present, and finding peace amid life’s noise. Those lessons have shaped not only how I live but also how I work with others.
My years as a flight attendant expanded my love of history, architecture, culture, and connection. Travel taught me that while places are beautiful, it’s the people you meet along the way who leave the greatest impression.
Recently, I attended a Celebration of Life where the grieving husband began by saying, “How lucky are we.” Those words stayed with me. They’ve become a personal mantra and a reminder that even during life’s most difficult seasons, there is still so much to be grateful for.
I truly cherish the trust my clients place in me. Many become much more than clients; they become lifelong friends. I feel incredibly fortunate to spend my days helping people find homes, researching neighborhoods, negotiating contracts, teaching movement and meditation, and sharing my love of travel, food, and adventure.
Life is truly a celebration, and I love celebrating it.
What matters most to you? Why?
Recently, I became a grandmother, Granny B, to be exact. There is something incredibly special about watching your children become loving, capable parents and seeing them build lives with kind and caring partners. It is pure joy not only to witness but to hold those babies in your arms!
Relationships are what matter most to me. I intentionally surround myself with kind-hearted people, and a few beloved fur babies, too. Those connections help carry me through life’s inevitable bumps in the road, whether at home or at work.
The most beautiful part of your story isn’t where you end up. It’s how you got there. I am very proud of how I got here. I was not perfect and made my share of mistakes, but through it all, I have had a grateful heart and will continue to be thankful for each day!
