Meet Shanika Ostine of Jad’Marie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanika Ostine. 

Hi Shanika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
A little background on me I am a Nashville native attended Metro Public Schools graduated from Maplewood High School, proud Alumni of Tennessee State University I hold a degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. For the last twelve years or so my career has been in drug and alcohol rehabilitation with some counseling. I have work with veterans, in prison, corrections, with adolescences, juvenile courts, foster care review boards, HIV programs you name it I have done it. My business Jad’Marie LLC gets its name from my two beautiful daughters Julicia Marie and Jada. Jad’ Marie was birthed out of the love that I have for the beauty industry and the many compliments that I have received over the years on the different shades of lipsticks I would wear, and just to have financial freedom for myself and children. 

I started Jad’Marie with $700 purchasing my first 5 shades of lipsticks and 3 lip glosses and now we are at 30 different shades. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an entrepreneur and single mom is not easy especially when your children are your world. You have to make sure they always feel safe, important, and their needs and wants come first. Traveling to two different schools daily, two different cheer practices three to four days a week, with a total of about five games between the two, plus church activities, helping with homework & chores, and running two different businesses it’s most definitely not a smooth road. As a full-time entrepreneur and mom, I miss out on a lot of networking events, courses to better myself and business, vendor shows, and volunteer time. You sometimes question yourself is it really all worth it. Then you think of your “WHY” and why you started in the first place. You find yourself giving yourself a little more Gratitude and that extra push to continue to knock down your goals and set yourself up for where you want to be in your life. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jad’Marie LLC?
Once I was laid off of my job of almost six years I knew that I didn’t want to work for anyone else besides myself. I had already had one small business that was making steady income for about five years now and I knew in order to make a decent living for myself and children I had to come up with another business. I would hear about different people starting cleaning services and that it could be profitable. So, I did my research and invested my 401k that I had took out due to being laid-off. I took the time to get my business structured the correct way and started JAD”MARIE LLC. Which made it easy two put both my businesses under the LLC now having JAD’MARIE CLEANING & DISINFECTING LLC and JAD’MARIE COSMETICS LLC. 

I am currently a full-time employee at JAD’MARIE CLEANING & DISINFECTING I have three employees including myself I have a total of 7 buildings that I clean on a daily ranging from construction sites, warehouses, office spaces, therapy offices, schools, one college, and several Airbnb’s. I provide a deep cleaning for all homes starting at $150 extra for pets, sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning of bathrooms, kitchens, and much more. I also provide all cleaning supply items accept toiletries, rather if it’s for a commercial property or noncommercial property. 

JAD’MARIE COSMETICS now offers over 30 shades of lipsticks, lip glosses, liquid matte lipsticks, matte lipsticks, and 3 lip liners. I mostly sell my products by word of mouth or through local vendor events and trade shows 

I am mostly known for my willingness to succeed, my hard work, my dedication to my businesses, my hustle, and being a great mom to my children. I say what sets me apart from others is that I am willing to put in just as much time and hard work into my businesses as my employees would. I am the one person who is willing to encourage and lead when others are not willing to. 

I am most proud of the way that I handle things when it comes to my businesses. I am always going to keep a smile on my face, take constructive criticism and go back to the drawing board to correct what needs to be corrected. I am always going to be on time, prepared for work, and look the part for success! 

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was when I was a Junior Police Officer for the Metro Police Department. Growing up I always wanted to be a Cop you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t going to be 5.O “LOL”. My grandmother God rest her soul worked for the Police Department for 26 years before she retired. Growing up she would take me to work with her a lot and as you could imagine I seen and heard a lot. Night court by far was my favorite. While being a Junior Police Officer we would learn drills, police codes, and what it would take to be an Officer of the law. Those were the good ole days.
