Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonja Carney.
Hi Sonja, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I actually started out doing taxes for a small finance company. That’s where I realized how much I enjoyed helping people make sense of their finances and feel confident about their money. Once I became certified, I decided to branch out on my own — and in August 2007, I started what’s now known as AuthentiQ Tax Service.
In the beginning, it was just me — and eventually, my kids joined in and got certified too. Over the years, we’ve grown into a full team that’s proud to serve individuals and small businesses. We offer personal and business tax preparation, free estimates, and even same-day money for qualifying clients.
We like to do things a little differently — we prepare taxes for teenagers completely free, and we give away a free vacation every year as a way to say thank you to our loyal clients.
As we grew, we wanted to become even more of a one-stop solution for our community, so we expanded into AuthentiQ Solutions, where we now offer notary services, fingerprinting, TSA PreCheck enrollment, DNA testing, and drug and alcohol testing.
At the heart of everything we do is our commitment to excellent customer service and being a valuable, trusted resource in our community. We truly want every client who walks through our doors to feel cared for, respected, and confident that they’re in good hands.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing worth having ever comes without a few struggles. The road definitely hasn’t been completely smooth, but every challenge has helped shape who we are today.
In the beginning, it was tough building trust and getting our name out there. I started with limited resources and had to wear many hats — from marketing and client service to compliance and accounting. There were seasons when things were slow, and I questioned whether I had made the right choice.
But through faith, consistency, and a real commitment to helping people, we pushed through. Each obstacle taught us something — how to adapt, grow, and improve. Now, when I look back, I see that those hard moments were really the foundation that helped AuthentiQ Tax Service and AuthentiQ Solutions become the strong, community-focused business we are today. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run AuthentiQ Tax Service and AuthentiQ Solutions, specializing in tax preparation, notary services, and identity verification, including specimen and fingerprint collection. I’m known for providing professional, personalized service that helps clients feel supported throughout the process.
What I’m most proud of is that every day we pray for our clients and for our business. It’s important to me that our work goes beyond completing tasks—we genuinely care about the people we serve and their success.
What sets us apart is our combination of expertise, attention to detail, and genuine care, creating an experience that is both efficient and meaningful.

I draw inspiration from the work I create and the platforms I manage. I’m the creator of The TalkBox Podcast, where I focus on motivation and personal growth, and I run the AuthentiQ Tax Service website at www.authentiqtax.com

These projects not only allow me to share knowledge and encouragement with others, but they also keep me motivated to do my best every day. Creating, learning, and serving through these platforms helps me stay focused and inspired in both my work and my personal life.
