Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Delahoussaye
Hi Stephen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is one of discovery.. I started out pursuing a career in Physical Therapy because of my passion for health and wellness. But while attending the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, I interned at Vanderbilt Bone and Joint Clinic and soon discovered it wasn’t necessarily the science I was passionate about, but more so the people. This connection with people and the ability to add value in any way possible is what actually brought me to real estate. In your mid 20’s you don’t really know what you’re doing or where you’re going, but I did know I wanted to impact people in such a significant way it would give meaning and purpose to my daily routine so work wouldn’t feel like work. In my eyes, what is more important than helping put a roof over a family’s head?
This passion has led me both to a successful career in real estate but more importantly the ability to work every single day without noticing its work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What would life be if not full of tests, obstacles and nearly every day challenges? My road to real estate has not been an easy one. It was full of doubts to go self employed, months of living at my parents trying to create income to pay them back for the free rent and so many mistakes it is hard to count. I can say with absolute certainty I regret nothing, and would experience all of it again if necessary. Those challenges and struggles helped shape not just the realtor but the man I am today. I have had to purchase refrigerators for clients, break hard news of contracts failing and even deal with a death of a personal friend of mine while selling his house. In real estate no day is the same, and no problem is either. Welcome the change, take on the adversity and learn from your mistakes.
We’ve been impressed with House Haven Realty, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
House Haven Realty is a small boutique local Nashville real estate brokerage in West Nashville. We help our community find and sell their dream homes, but we are so much more than that. Our brokerage is small and local and has no plans to grow out of that. We are a family, centered upon helping each other as agents and growing together. We volunteer once a month in our communities and never lose focus on the city that we love and strive to make better every day. If you are looking for a brokerage to call home and feel like home, don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Best advice I can give here. Approach with a “add value first” mentality. Giver’s Gain in the networking world. The more you give, the more you receive. If you are knowledgeable about a craft share it with the world. Meet with your core friends and sphere of influence. Ask them the following question, “Do you know 3 people that would help me grow professionally or personally?”. Meet with these 3 people, build rapport and at some point ask the same question. You will grow a network in no time!
