Meet Sync It! Music

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sync It! Music.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hey, we’re John & Sonnet. Just a couple of indie artists who love helping other indies get wins in the music biz. Over the last few years, we’ve both found career success and purpose through the niche of music licensing. As we started landing placements, other indie artists would ask: “How did you do it!?”

We both began teaching about sync for a company called Catch The Moon Music, and lead thousands of students through comprehensive music licensing curriculum. This resulted in countless student rep deals and hundreds of placements. In December of 2021, we started our own education company called Sync It! Music. We offer different workshops, and programs and also host live events.

Our Licensing Basecamp community brings together indies eager to improve their songwriting, productions, and pitching. And they get an opportunity each month to submit music for consideration by a different licensing partner. We’re evolving and creating new resources for indie artists as the licensing world continues to change.

It’s a fun challenge that’s worth every bit of effort!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a remarkably smooth ride so far.

We get along great and spend a lot of time working on the services we offer to our students. The emphasis is on the value we deliver to indie artists. The preparation has paid off, big time. Since we are a small team, one of the obstacles has simply been picking which ideas (from the seemingly endless list) to implement first.

It’s okay though, we do have plans to scale Sync It! as it grows. So hopefully, we won’t be such a small team for long!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One thing that sets us apart from other music licensing education companies is that our focus is on getting indie music ready to pitch to sync agencies/houses.

Versus pitching directly to music supervisors and ad agencies. Getting quality rep can be a much faster route to success for many creators since most supes are constantly inundated by inbound communication and already have the trusted folks they tend to work with.

The people they typically send briefs to… it’s the agencies/houses!
