Today, we’d like to introduce you to Tatum Rein.
Hi Tatum, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a small town and fell in love with doodling and drawing at a young age… so much so that my sister would get upset with me and shove crayons in her diapers and lock herself in a room so I wouldn’t have anything to draw with and would have no other option but to play with her.
I began to really get into computer design in middle school and carried that love and passion within me ever since. During those years, I kept up with fine art, and honestly, it was and is still one of my biggest passions. I felt a little let down in high school when a teacher told me I would never make it as an artist… fast forward to where I am now, three years in with my business, Odd Fellow Creative, and I can’t help but thank that teacher for those words.
Not only can I say I am a successful designer/artist, but I am also a survivor of IV drug abuse for a little over ten years; I still remember moving to Nashville in 2018 with 120$ to my name and living at a friend house for three months until they required rent.
Living as a successful artist in 2024 still feels surreal, and I am thankful for every part of the journey that led me to where I am now. Odd Fellow Creative started doing murals in 2024, and I can’t believe that is now a part of our story. I have a mural in Madison at Inclusive Health, a mural in the works in Franklin at Flynn & Company, and one in Lebanon for Elevate Coffee, and I soon hope that downtown Nashville will be a part of my mural list!
Opportunities are endless, and I feel more empowered than ever to make this dream a functioning & successful reality.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth would have been lovely, but it wouldn’t have given me the tools I have now. I am an ex-drug addict of 10 years and also a trans man living in the South.
It has been far from easy, but the most rewarding, and I am thankful for the community and opportunities that keep flowing in; it is still very surreal.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Honestly, I love a challenge and pride myself on trying things that I have yet to accomplish or having the ability to add a unique project to my portfolio. I am known for my logo design, marketing material, social graphics, band merch/collateral, apparel designs, and promotional product work.
What I am most excited about with this 2024 year is the opportunity to bring fine art and graphic design under one roof. I have three murals currently underwork and about five possible opportunities on the way. If you had asked me three years ago to paint a mural for the public or to run my own business, I probably would have laughed at you.
Lack of confidence and fear used to run my show, but now I take fear and turn that into growing pains and lessons and building blocks to continually add to the Odd Fellow Creative job abilities. It has been the most rewarding ride of my life & it still doesn’t feel real.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
They can reach out at 937-522-5888, www.oddfellowcreative.com, and instagram or facebook @Oddfellowcreative
I will say I haven’t been able to keep up with the social pages as much as I would like, but we are thriving and moving better than I could have ever anticipated just by word of mouth.
