Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrence Elam.
Hi Terrence, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Terrence Dre Elam! I’m from Trenton TN, and now live in Nashville Tn. I’m married to the love of my life Faith Pipkin-Elam, and blessed to be a part of the music industry! I produce music, write music, and also program music! I grew up playing in the band where I marched snare drum 5 years, and ended up playing the drum set for a couple of years as well. Playing for many churches, nightclubs, bars, and etc….. I’ve learned so much doing all that. I really wasn’t supposed to be there, but my dad made it happen for me I was 12 years old playing at clubs and bars! I’m forever grateful for the early opportunities which prepared me for the doors and other opportunities God had in store for me later down the road. I’m excited to share my story with you guys!
I really wasn’t supposed to be in the clubs, but my dad somehow made it happen and I was forever grateful.
I’ve been blessed to play for the Denise Lasalle aka “The Queen Of Blues”, The Swon Brothers, Tyler Booth, JessLee, Track 45, Tim Rogers and the Fellas, Duggar Band, LeVelle, JL, and countless more! Most of these artists are from the hit tv show “The Voice” and are most importantly they are great people in general! God is good and I’m forever grateful for the opportunities that’s offered to me! I’ve also played the Broadway scene downtown Nashville Which is also a perfect place to learn on a daily basis.
Staying humble and always thinking about others is what got me to where I am today. God has blessed me to work with amazing people, but always keeping God first and always staying teachable is what really got me in the door.
I’ve recently been blessed to produce a few country songs as well as R&B, which is basically rhythm and blues. Nashville has been good to me I’ve met some amazing people that has helped me get my business off the ground.
I thank God for my business, and if I was to share any advice it will be save your money and invest in yourself.
I’m 26 years old and still thriving learning and absorbing the music industry. Learning how to navigate through this industry while learning how to handle life’s responsibilities with my beautiful wife Faith Pipkin Elam.
Learning how to play all genres of music is really what made me who I am today. As a Producer, Songwriter, musician, musical director, programmer, it’s really important to never forget how you got to where you are. Keep God first and he will always make sure that you never lack for anything.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road, but nothing that’s really worth something is easy to come by. Sometimes the lack of financial stability can be a struggle depending on your management skills with what you have.
It’s also a lonely road chasing your dreams and starting your own business. It’s just important to keep God in the mix.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am basically a drummer that has learned more about the music industry and more ways to make money in the music industry. I am a producer, songwriter, musician, programmer, Musical Director. With each one, you have to hold your weight especially when you’re dealing with someone else’s music who believes that you can bring it to life, and make a beautiful memory.
Songwriting is something that I have fell in love with. It’s a way to emotionally, physically reach people, and basically tell the story that they are feeling inside. Sometimes it can be a good feeling, or it can be a bad feeling. From people that we have loss, or to the people that we have found It can all be established through a song.
I’m most proud of myself for not giving up, and no matter what nobody said or had to say, I always keep God first and I always made sure I was on top of my game no matter what stage I was on no matter what building I was in no matter who I was playing for I wanted to be filled through whatever I did.
I try to set myself apart with knowing all genres of music being able to play all genres of music being able to adapt to any environment and being able to take care of my family in the music industry and always staying relevant to what’s going on right now.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One good lesson that I’ve learned along the way is that always remain humble, and always keep God first. Always remembering that you can be replaced, and most importantly remain being yourself because that’s what got you in the door anyway.
Consistency pays off!
