Meet Travis Wood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Wood.

Travis Wood

Hi Travis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
When I was about 13, I started listening to hard rock and alternative bands like Creed, Korn, and Sevendust, bands that were popular in the nu-metal Era. This was the late 90s. In 2000, I started going to a new high school and met some guys who knew this band called SOMA. I had been jamming with some dudes at my school and had never really been to a local show before. I got there and when SOMA started playing it blew me away.

They were so much heavier than I imagined. They were doing Killswitch Engage-style breakdowns before KSE was ever even on a national scene. Everyone there knew we were watching these dudes make history. Those guys not only have been my mentors but I’m lucky enough to have them as my best friends. I owe everything I’ve ever done musically to those guys.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think any musician will tell you it’s never a smooth road. So many pitfalls and trappings along the way. George Strait kind of summed it up in his song “A Showman’s Life”. It’s all snakes out here, no pun intended. This business will chew you up and spit you out.

It’s like being addicted to a narcissist with narcissist friends. Everyone wants to know you when you’re popping but no one is around in the moments you’re living out these songs. It can be a lonely, hard road. The music and the ones who prove that you can trust them are the ones who make it worth the struggle.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My fiancé Stephanie Pritchett and I run an events company called Ten Ton Entertainment.

We’re doing a festival on Friday, July 5th, and Saturday, July 6th in Cedar Hill, TN (About 30 mins northwest of Nashville right off I-24) called New South Warrior Fest Open Air featuring All Your Sins (ex-members of Pentagram), Bigfoot Is Real (ex-members of Red/Love And Death), Gravehuffer, my bands Of Serpents and Creekdevil, Revision Revised (OH), Kuhmora (OH), Gorilla Warfare and 17 more bands on two stages throughout the weekend!!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have a deep love for motorsports, specifically Monster Trucks. I was a mechanic for the Bad News Monster Truck out of Elkton, VA, and Predator Monster Truck Racing out of Nashville, TN. I have driven a couple of times and yes, it’s as fun as it seems.

I was also adopted, and I have 12 other biological siblings I have met except one and remain close with to this day.
